insurance in texas Does anyone have an insurance company that allows rottweilers? I have just begun the search, but the first few answers have been that this breed is on the unacceptable list. What does the type of dog have to do with property insurance...... well it seems that the liability ins. is tied together with property ins. You can't get one without the other. What companies do the other Texans use? Thanks for your help. Glad I found the site.

We have the same problem all over the place and I realize this sounds dishonest but I register my dogs as mix breeds because we also have a daycare on the same property and no insurance company would insure for that reason alone. My dogs have never bitten anyone on the property by my inlaws that run the daycare center have a dachshund that has bitten almost every child and parent that comes there. Could you imagine if it was a Rottweiler. It is breed discrimination pure and simple.

I've heard State Farm will not insure if you do any sort of "bite work" training with your dog - e.g. SchH protection training would be out. Is this your understanding Dawn? [This message has been edited by LisaS (edited January 12, 2000).]

The term they used to me was "attack training" but to me that includes bite work. Since I don't do bite work it wasn't an issue. If you do, I don't know of another company off the top of my head. Sorry. Dawn dawn.neff@jcnordt.com http://members.aol.com/dplantier

Thank you all for your responses. I look forward to getting involved in more discussions. Mine are pets, and are more likely to hurt someone by knocking them down to get some attention. I just found it strange that insurance companies had evidently lobbied to tie property insurance and liability together, without giving the customer the choice. I did forget to mention this was for renters insurance. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions. Rod

Try State Farm, they are who I have my insurance with. They only will not insure you if your dog has a bite history or if you have an "attack" trained dog. Doesn't matter at all what breed they are. I had my agent check with the home office specificly to insure that rotties were allowed. They said this is their coporate policy and should apply to all states. Good luck with it. Dawn Neff dawn.neff@jcnordt.com http://members.aol.com/dplantier
