BSL is BSL. We ALL will pay dearly for it in the long run. We must fight hard wherever we can. This one is easy. JUST SAY NO. The general public thinks that all our dogs are vicious killers thanks to the media.

This is one chance to make our voice heard.

VOTE!!

I did say no. With 2 pits and 1 rott I understand BSL. I just wondered if it could harm us at all.

And why should "WE" the law abidding citizen have to be delt with like a criminal. The question was "tougher on those who own." The law should be tough on irresponsible owners. Not the ones who own a dog,no matter what breed, take care of it and bring it up right. People need to take responsibility for themselves and not blame it on everything else. But in our society, it is much easier to blame someone else for your own mistakes..
Laws are for honest people only, and we pay a high price for being honest.... Seem to me the crook gets all the rights...... For crying out loud... Do you think they even license their dogs?

No, because the jerk next door isn't going to be deterred by laws anyway. BSL punishes those who follow the rules, and lets the people who don't care continue to make responsible owners look bad.

The only way aggressive dog behavior can be curbed by legislation is if the owners of any aggressive dog of any breeds are held responsible for the behavior of their dogs. BSL is useless and does nothing to fix the real problem of uncaring, irresponsible and ignorant dog ownership. The energy and money wasted both creating BSL and fighting it could be so much better spent by finding real solutions to the real problems

I added my NO vote. Is there a place on the poll site that shows the running count of YES and NO votes? I couldn't find it.

I voted NO yesterday. This is so ridiculous!

Today, they have a nice little article. They can't even spell "Rottweiler" correct!

I'm SO tired of this crap. It's sad that the media puts all sorts of false information out there. NO matter how much we try, people have it in thier minds that these breeds are all bad. We know there are bad dogs in EVERY breed....But they don't get it! Punish irresponsible owners, not the breed!

yes, but their followup and their treatment and misspellings and that horrid photo of the angry dog is inexcusable.

YOU can write them from this site.
http://www.wifr.com/station/contact

This is my letter:

To whom it may concern:

I am very sorry to see that your station has bought into the sensationalism and senselessnesss of Breed Specific Legislation.

Your research department should know that it is spelled ROTTWEILER.

There are literally MILLIONS of PitBull type (that is not a breed of dog) dogs and Rottweilers in the United States who live exemplary lives in service to mankind as service dogs, and as loving well behaved pets. These dogs don't make the pages or the airwaves of your sensational news.

The numbers of children killed or seriously injured by dog bite injury is TINY compared to children that die of drowning, who are hit by cars, who die in auto accidents, in shootings, or who are killed or seriously injured as a result of child abuse.

You focus on a tiny area of injuries or death to kids that has a sensational viewpoint. There is a HUGE and well organized group of responsible dog owners who do NOT think that sort of reporting is a good thing. Your POLL RESULTS will show that. We organized, and we voted. En mass. We can do the same thing at the polls. And with the TV remote. And with how we buy all our news publications.

We would like to see proper spelling of the word ROTTWEILER on your website. We would like to see a story on a service dog. Maybe one of the SAR dogs who worked tirelessly and courageously and gallantly on "the pile" after September 11th. Or one of the literally THOUSANDS of registered Therapy dogs who bring joy to sick kids and institutionalized people of all ages. Or maybe just a dog no one writes about and who does not make the news papers or TV stations, but who has made a huge difference in the quality of life for a disabled person.

Good news tells the entire story.

I look forward to seeing the other side on YOUR web site.

Sincerely,

Rebekah L. James
