Sterling KS bans pit bulls and rottis

Sterling, KS city council voted last night to ban pit bulls and rottwielers last night. Ban goes into effect on Thursday. Two young girls were attacked by a neighbors pit bulls.

are we going to wake up NOW!!! it's not somewhere overseas anymore, and it's not just pitbulls, it's our breed and it's here and it will get worse.

I have a picture of my sweetie that looks the same. She was trying to bite the sliding glass door to try and get in and we took a digital picture. She wasn't mad or anything but she looked very scary. I deleted the picture because she looked so bad in it. I can't stand the idea of people banning our dogs. Is there any way for these poor people to fight this?

As usual, just like any thread in the BSL section, this topic hasn't generated much interest, yet our chit chat corner is buzzing with jokes and cute pictures. I tell you what folk, keep taking those pictures because soon enough you won't be allowed to have rottweilers to take the pictures with.;)

It is stupid to ban 2 breeds if children were bitten by a single representative of 1.
Last summer in Latvia was a similar case - staff just scratched with his nails somehow a child who attempted to tease him in elevator cabin. As a result a ban on 7 breeds was issued countrywide - including even breeds not represented in country (Fila Brasileiro) and represented as a single dog (Dogo Argentina).
A severe control over more breeds incl. rottweiler was planned.
Furtunately, we proved through Constitutional Court, that the law was absurd and recently (a week ago) it was suspended.
And the main question we had regarding those bans - what about the dogs we already have? It was legal at the time of the purchase to have and to breed a dog, what now?
If you remember that stupid case in Spain few years ago - when it was decided to force owner to get rid of the dogs. In Latvia owners were obliged to sterilize their dogs - how the state could allow or even force to damage my private property (in leegal sense...). So we suggested our club members to wait for the court decision instead - and we won. For the time being.

but if you want to stop the ban you can! humans dont realize the power they have, ( NO IM NOT CRAZY)
if you really want to do something then do it! it sounds crazy but its not!!! go to your local law libary, read every single law book even if it takes a year! read the law books on the amendments and then bring up the issues of .....are ya ready for this one????
noahs ark!!! NO IM NOT NUTS... I am a native american the white mans law is so different, but you have to remember god put these animals here on earth before humans, now a judge or the
president of the united states of america dont want you to bring that up of course we all no that...I dont know how many people that are reading the post know the bible either but why do you think noah put two of every animal on the ark??? think about it.
you must bring that up! if you are very devoted and very serious about stoping the ban then you will do something about it!
people complain and whine but no one does anything about it,,,
if people across the state would all ban together to put a stop to this nonsense it would work. but people sit at home and whine and wait for someone else to fight for the animals rights so nothing is being done!! Im not taking this out on you Im just explaing, sorry if it sounds like im blaming you. I live in a town of 500 people and there was a certain issue here that i fought for it took me a year and I got over 2000 people to gather together for it and you know it worked, but I fought for it.....and It was worth it... so anyways I will be there for you if you need my help for saving your breed of dogs pits and rotties...

The legislators are legislating on breeds when they should be legislating against the owners. I believe I read an article on this board a few months ago about an intelligent decission made from legislators in Chicago. (I think it was in Chicago) it was totally re: irresponsible dog ownership and said nothing about "dangerous dog breeds" which means it covers all dog breeds! (or should I say their irresponsible owners!) Its a starting point anyways.

Excuse me for saying this but aren't I the guy who gets yelled at for negative press about rottweiler and responsible ownership. They go hand in hand I said this I know I did. You see they are doing it one by one joining together why we just concentrate on saving our own skins. See they start with one breed (pitbulls) then they open the flood gates to get any dog on the list they want. I have yelled to the top of my lungs that we as rottweilers owner, breeders, educators have to do more. We have to push harder and draw more lines to stop this now. I think at Rott stock we should have a Giant list made and then taken and whenever some bill come out we send a mass list to the governner, senator or whoever so that even if we don't have the time the mass list is sent no matter what. They are coming to get us this is not paranoid this is real. They want us to give up our right to own a rottweiler and we have to start acting and doing something and admitting that we need to act on the bad press of Rottweilers as well as the good. The Bad has to be addressed in order to find away to get more good press. That's what has to happen and insurance companies as well if we have friends who use the same insurance we should talk to them about stop using the insurance company as well because it is discrimination no matter what they want to call it. Start letting the people who want to ban our breeds and stop insuring us let them feel the heat for awhile. At Rott stock we should really get together and find away to put the heat on legislature to ban our breeds.

In today's age of internet it is so easy to do, you can simply set up a petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/ and get people to sign it.

baned pitt bulls, & all rescue dogs unles they pass cgc test!. & yet pit bull down the street keeps atacking my mutt that is an outside dog.

Yea, I post a lot of pictures and chatter...probably to a fault.

But I also work my heart out with SSRR and therapy visits. One of the main reasons I pursued getting my girl certified is so the public could see a Rottweiler doing the work.

I also sign every internet petition I find on a forum or email list.

What's next....marching on Washington? Yep...I'd do that too if I learned of an event.

Oh Kristine, absolutely not, I am just somewhat dissapointed that the BSL section of this forum generates the least amount of interest (judging by the number of posts and replies).
I actually enjoy the pictures:D.
