Talking Not Confident

Hi All, this is my first time here so I hope I get this right
I have a female Rotty nearly two years old.
She is usually very friendly and happy to accept my visitors.
Just lately we had a huge amount of visitors at one time and she weed on her bed and became very nervous.
I am wondering if this is because she misses our puppy(had to have him put to sleep because of the most severe arthritis) and the amount of visitors we had.
Can anyone please give me some advice

Re: Not Confident

I am sorry for the loss of your other dog...and yes, dogs who are under stress frequently forget their house training. It sounds like she's had to deal with quite a few changes...give her time and all should be well. If not, and she continues to have accidents, PLEASE take her to the vet to make certain it isn't related to a health issue such as a urinary tract infection.
Best of luck.

Re: Not Confident

Give her more time. The loss of the puppy, may have been stressful for her. Too many folks milling about, at this particular time, may be more than she can handle. She sounds a bit on the timid and softer side. Don't make it worse.

Perhaps, before such a large number of people arrive, make sure she's recently pottied. Then leave her a place her crate or another room, where she can retreat when things begins to overwhelm her. Don't make a fuss over her. Don't coddle her, and feed into this behavior.

Make sure she doesn't have UTI. Two year old dogs don't usually begin wetting the bed without a reason. Urinary tract infections are #1 on my list, when or if, that happens!

Next, consider a V-E-R-Y positive training class. She's a sensitive creature, and training classes would build her confidence. I prefer clicker training as it ALWAYS focus' on the positive aspects of training. Give it a try!

Re: Not Confident

I am sorry for the loss of your puppy. That must be so stressful for all of you.

Visitors make some dogs/puppies very excited and will need to wee. Greta has been this way since we got her at 14 months. Of course we had to learn that within 5 minutes of visitors arrival she needed to go outside. We had a few accidents in the house before we made the connection. There were times when we had just come in from outside, visitors arrived and she was very excited and still wee a little bit. So, after all hello's and butt wagging are finished we take her outside she wee's and then were back inside without any incidents. She is almost 5-1/2 and no accidents in years.

It may be as simple as that she gets so excited that she has to go.
