Re: Always wondered??

Brinks is only 5 mths old, but I have many races living in my neighbourhood that he's been exposed to since 8 weeks old. Although, this morning I had an experience that I hadn't expected. We were on our morning walk and came across an albino girl. Brinks didn't have a bad reaction, but paid a little more attention to looking at her than he normally does when we walk past people. I told him "leave it" which is what I say when people don't seem interested in stopping to pet him, and we kept on our way. It was something that I hadn't considered before though......him being curious of someone who is albino.

On the other hand, we came across 4 different workers this morning in different uniforms. I always ask anyone in a uniform if Brinks can come meet them and see that they're nice people.

Re: Always wondered??

It could be that they put off a different "attitude"..... does he react to balck males in suits? Or just the ones in baggy pants, hoddies and caps?

Re: Always wondered??

The only thing I can suggest is to do what I did with my dog. I got some neighbours who I know and trust, and armed them with treats. I would stand a few feet away with dog on leash and talk to them. Having them ignore the dog. When my dog approached them, I would click, praise and treat. With a few months she had gotten over this. If there is a neighbour that you know or kind of know, and trust. What I mean by trust is he's not going to lie and say your dog bit him, then ask if he could help you out in the training to resolve this issue.

Re: Always wondered??

Did you say that it was the same type of young man that gets his attention? Maybe it is the young man's body language that your rottie is reacting to. They say that dogs react to body language above all else and can sense things about people that we can't see.

Re: Always wondered??

I wonder if your Rottie is sensing something not quite right with this particular person?
Do you know if the man is of good character?
I believe I would be careful around this guy.

Re: Always wondered??

I'm just wondering if the men are slightly afraid of him and he's picking up on that fear.
