| Barking At Everything Dexter is 10 months now and barks at absolutely everything: someone at the door, the surround sound on the television, a leaf falling outside... I don't have a problem with this, but I was wondering if there was a command I could incorporate to indicate to Dexter when the barking should stop. He often continues to bark at the sound even after I go to him to tell him it's enough. Any ideas? |

| Re: Barking At Everything I use a nice soft shhhhhhh with Dixie. If she gets too agressive and I want to stop the play, I say shhhhhhh and she calms right down. I just do it so it's calming/soothing to her not more excitement. Dixie rarely barks but sometimes she gets all excited about something outside and she's repremended by calling her over to us and putting her in a down stay, leave it! That settles things most times. Good luck with that :)

| Re: Barking At Everything We use "enough" to get ours to settle down... we started by getting her all riled up, then using "enough," and then treating when she relaxed and saying "good enough." You can also teach your dog to bark on command, and then when you don't want them to, say "no {insert bark command here}" You don't want to always tell them not to bark though, so if the doorbell rings and they bark, tell them "good bark" to acknowledge that they did something positive, but then when you want them to stop, use one of your commands that basically tells them that you know there's something out there, and they need to settle down.
