Re: EXTREME freak out????

I know, she was probably looking at us trying to comfort her and seeing monsters ! I am just glad my dog wasn't really going crazy....just temporarily.

Now to figure out how to keep toads away .

Re: EXTREME freak out????

What a ghastly, frightening experience. I read this thinking, "What the heck could this be?" having never experienced anything remotely similar.

I am so glad this will only be a temporary thing and that Nisha will be back to herself in no time.

Re: EXTREME freak out????

Here I am putting it in the behavior section! I should have known it was something medical. I should know my dog better; I knew her behavior was way off....oh well, live and learn. At least we will know for the next "Toad Poison" victim...hopefully there wont be one .

Re: EXTREME freak out????

I was talking to a friend about this and she reminded me that her dog is a "toad licker" and that apparently some dogs get addicted to the toxin This dog also eats hops

I guess it's a good thing we DO NOT have your toads here!!

Poor baby, give her a hug (carefully) and yes keep her home til this wears off

Did the vet say how long this could be?

Re: EXTREME freak out????

I think it is starting to wear off. She said really just keep an eye on her; if it gets worse or she vomits take her to the ER.

Nisha probably just licked the toad. Eating it can be deadly !

I am about to go mow; toads like long grass.....and to think, I left the toad there b/c he was kinda cute! That stupid thing could have killed my baby! No more nice girl for me; those toads are toast now!

Re: EXTREME freak out????

What an strangely amazing and frightening experience!!!! I have never heard of such a thing. Glad to hear it is only temporary and Nisha will be back to herself in no time.

I'll have to add toads to my list of things to watch out for...

Re: EXTREME freak out????

Wow, who would have thought! We have so many toads, frogs and such around my home and I never once thought they could harm my dog(s).

I'm so glad the mystery has been solved! I'm so glad that she will be better soon.

Re: EXTREME freak out????

Apparently toads are not the only thing that can cause this. There is a discussion going on just now on my "other" breed's list about Lyme diease causing sudden fear and terror in otherwise stable dogs! As soon as I read that, I rushed over to post it here in answer to your event but I saw that you had a diagnosis. Posted anyway for others.

Re: EXTREME freak out????

oh yes! we had SEVERAL dogs at the boarding kennel who had HUGE temperament changes and after the first one was diagnosed we made sure to mention to other owners about it. ALL the dogs with dramatic changes turned out to be Lyme positive. SCARY

Re: EXTREME freak out????

It was scarey; I thought my dog had rabies! After you mentioned it I googled the signs and started to freak! They are scarily similar; foaming, unexplained demensia...I called the breeder and she started to freak thinking maybe some sort of seizures!

I am thankful for all of you! I don't know what I would do without your support. Now I just need to find all the people at H.D. who witnessed her "episode" and explain to them that she isn't really crazy...she just licked a toad!

Re: EXTREME freak out????

Well, geez......I'm glad you found out what it was! You could probably collect and sell those toads on the black market, LOL.

Here's a link to some non-toxic "toad repellent" strategies.... Toad Repellent .....it seems you could use some right about now!

I'm glad the girl is going to be okay!

I don't know that your telling them that she licked a toad is going to convince them that she is not crazy but for another reason! Just doesn't sound like something a "sane" being would do! LOL

Glad to hear Nisha will be ok. Poor baby!

I also thought toads were cute. Now I know better.

I hope she feels better soon!

Re: EXTREME freak out????

I am just curious of how the vet made the diagnosis just in case this happens to someone else's dog.
