Re: Is your Rottie always hot?

It's very hot here in FL aready this year.

No day time walks for us now, the pavement/sidewalks are too hot on the paws. We now prefer early morning/late afternoon romps around the yard/walks.

Indoors we keep the house nice and comfee. She sleeps all day on our bed, with a ceiling fan above her (ac is set to 75) and when we're home she's wherever we are (naturally), she's comfee in the house. Won't spend much time outside but that's ok too ;)

Re: Is your Rottie always hot?

People wonder, sometimes in the spring, if I'm going to cut down any of my 8-10 remaining pines trees. (*once 23) Why? So I can have more "real" grass in my semi-private yard...for the lawn guy to mow!

The fence is recessed from the sidewalk on both street sides. So...THAT's where the nice grass is! Inside? I have a patio/grilling area and lots of seating room. But the rest of the yard is for running dogs, and agility, and kiddie pools, and relaxing in S-H-A-D-E!

I wouldn't cut down even 1 of my shady pines for the sake of a better lawn! What? And loose all that beautiful, cool shade? Not on your life.

They forget in who's yard we most often sit and chat because there's shade... Hmmmmm...90 this Saturday. Wonder where everyone will be if not inside with AC? Out back at Shady Pines!

Re: Is your Rottie always hot?

So funny that I found this today. I had to leave the bathroom door open for Max last night because he wanted to lay on the tile floor. Our bedroom is carpeted. Lately at night, he's been sleeping in his crate with the crate door open, but last night he sprawled out on the bathroom floor. How cute he was .

Re: Is your Rottie always hot?

My pal pants non-stop in the summer. Poor guy. He's constantly, and desperately always looking for a cool place to cool down. I'm actually installing all hardwood floors in my upstairs and upgrading my A/C unit just for him (and me of course) as I type this (taking a break lol)

Re: Is your Rottie always hot?

Rocky, who is my seven year old male has always been hot. Seeks out anything to lay on thats cool. Hardly ever uses his bed or quilt blanket. I have had my dog since he was almost one year old and notice that he excels in the cold weather. I mean give him a 10 or 20 degree cold day here in New Jersey and he is a happy camper. Of course, he is getting older and the arthritis in the winter acts up, but he still loves the cold days. Even though he feels hot all the time, I took his temp a few weeks ago and it was normal at 102. Most recently he had a bout of gastroenteritis and his temp at the vet's office was 101.5, but he hot.

Re: Is your Rottie always hot?

Emmy is also hot, so we got a table oscillating fan and we put it on the floor about a foot or so away from her and turn it on low and that seems to do it. However, there have been some nights that I have had to spray her belly w/water along w/the fan. It does get hot here in the Sacramento area!!
