Fake Nails?

I went yesterday and got fake nails. This is the first time I have had them since I have had Kane and Diesel. I havent had 40 laying around to spend on myself it all goes to the animals or bills. Anyway when I got home. Diesel(catahoula) started suckling on my nails. I corrected him and then Kane seen them and starts chewing on them. Kane is a old dog so he NEVER chews. Is it something with the nails that makes them react funny to them.
Diesel is a 1yr old catahoula from the shelter that was taken from his mom at about 2weeks old.

Re: Fake Nails?

I have them and have had them for years (I do them myself, too cheap to pay someone ) and Emmy has never been interested in them at all! Maybe it was just the new smell on you that got them going or they were doing their version of "glue sniffing"!

I've also had them for years, my daughter was a nail tech when she was living in spain with us, cheap also, she used to use Creative products who recommend after completion the nails should have a coat of solar oil (to keep them in good condition) this smells of almonds and my dogs love it and always lick my nails, sorry it took so long to get to the point!

LOL! i was thinking the same thing!

But on topic, I had fake nails for a few months over the winter and Vegas liked to put them in her mouth. I don't know why, but now that they're not on, she's over it. I'm sure its an unnatural smell or something....

Or the fake thing haha

Re: Fake Nails?

I love the fake nails....but I prefer to call them acrylic instead of fake They are so much stronger and they make for way better belly or but scratches for the pooches. My shepherd mix Zumi didn't have a problem with them, she just knew I was the best scratcher in the house! So did my cats.

I had them last summer and loved them and have been thinking about getting them again soon, so I have no idea how Gary would react to them lol.

Re: Fake Nails?

Hello,
I am a nail technician so my Rotty is used to them now lol.
Although once I did this really mad spiral nail, and was waving it in his face.....and He bit the end off
I was gutted, it took me ages to do lol.

It could definitely be the new smell of top coat, or oil applied,
It could even be because the surface is cold and smooth ...

Long nail enhancements however, are no good for rough play with rotties and their toys...Myself and many clients have found out as the nail pings across the room, leaving behind an immense amount of pain !!!
(plus the cost of a nail repair lol)

Re: Fake Nails?

I thought this was gonna be a post on fake nails for dogs as well (now there's a marketing idea for the toy breeds kind of like for cats). Any how... I can't keep nails either, and the one time I got fakes my Mindy (RIP) wouldn't come near me... I guess maybe she didn't like the smell.

Me TOO! My theory? It was new for your dogs. There is that glue smell, etc. And...you obviously didn't pull your hands away! YIKES! Iffin' ya don't want licking -n- chewin' get the nails out of reach and say "No."

PS: I grow my own...since about 2nd grade! I do keep them a bit shorter for agility, but I still have them... polished or plain.

Re: Fake Nails?

I've had a porcelain product on my nails since 1984 and never have I had a dog, any dog try to lick or bite my nails. I honestly don't understand why you would even let a dog "mouth" you in the first place. What am I missing in this whole conversation?
