Is your rottie a cat?

Max is

When I come home, he'll come up to me and rub himself on my leg like a cat does, with the head rubbing and all. We don't have cats, never did, but I do believe his breeder has one or two. Did he learn it from that young an age, or is this a rottie thing?

Also, he'll bat at a toy like a cat too. As he play bows, he'll bat, bat, bat, then pounce. It's really cute to see him.

Re: Is your rottie a cat?

Yep, rotts are very large cats. All of my rotts have done the same and we never had cats. It does get hard on your shins at times.

Re: Is your rottie a cat?

They are the only dogs that i have ever seen 'try' to curl up into a ball and sit on your lap, no matter what chair you are on, so YES i think they are definately large cats, but with a better personaility They actually WANT to please you whereas a cat wants YOU to please it. Dont get me wrong, i love cats, my first cat died at the age of 20 (i got him what i was 6 years old and he was just a tiny little kitten), i have never had another cat, he was the 1 in a million cat - RIP Mr Tibbs, til we meet again someday, i will have those green beans you loved so much waiting for you!!!!

Gosh! I was going to disagree...until I read this! Well, and this...

Sable does this! Rave does not. But they ARE: "bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy, FUN, FUN, FUN, fun, fun!!" And they ARE: "WONDERFUL THINGS!"

...tho, I get no leg rubbing, at all, ever.

Re: Is your rottie a cat?

Cyrus is a cat! He rubs my legs like a cat, he plays with toys like cat (wil not retrieve, just bat it around), loves snuggles like a cat and eats like a cat.

Yes, I free feed (running for cover!)

Re: Is your rottie a cat?

Vegas is definitely a cat! I've gotten a bruise or two on my legs from her trying to curl up in my lap and stepping on my leg lol. Not to mention the leg rubbing, and the constant stretching!

She's also a tigger though too.... bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy fun fun fun! :D

Re: Is your rottie a cat?

Good thread!

Dixie too is catlike. I know why cats do what they do (rubbing to put their scent on me), why my 90 pound rottie wants to do the same thing is a mystery to me.

It's entertaining to live with, isn't it.

Re: Is your rottie a cat?

Three of the six Rotties that I've owned have had this cat like behavior that you mentioned. My little 10 month old girl doesn't seem to do it but 2 of my prior males and one female loved to rub up against me. I have also had other breeds but none of them seemed to have this trait. Actually, I thought that it was kind of neat and enjoyed their affectionate touch.

My little girl also pounces on her toy and bats it around like a cat. I guess that I've never looked at it as being "cat like" until you brought my attention to it.

Cute poem SabellesMom. I wish I was that creative....

Re: Is your rottie a cat?

Lottie doesn't rub against my leg, she pushes through my legs and stands there waiting for her butt to be scratched lol. she also noses her ball everywhere rather than use her paw. Yes Webangel2b it's very entertaining, I could watch them all day but I'd never get any work done!...
