| Re: Humping??? Yes they do. She is trying to tell him she is boss. It is a rude behavior to get into.

| Re: Humping??? Many people believe that humping is something only sexually related, when in fact that is not always the case. Yes, male dogs can do this behavior when they want to mate, but males and females alike also use this rude gesture as a way to show/prove dominance. Self assured dogs can assert themselves to other dogs to show their confidence in so many other well mannered ways, such as how they present themselves and what they allow from another dog. Humping to show this is something that can be embarrassing (at least it is to me) and can definitely lead to a fight if this were to happen to another self assured dog. There should be an absolute ZERO tolerance for this behavior towards people. If a dog is humping a person, the dog has no respect for that person. I used to have a female dog who would frequently hump our female house cat. No, it does not mean I have a messed up weird dog who has her species and sexes mixed up, she was just telling the cat who's boss (although I'm sure the cat had no idea what was going on since humping isn't part of a cat's language lol!). Needless to say, she was always corrected and removed from the cat if she tried to get away with this. |

| Re: Humping??? My Rottweiler also will hump at times, first it was a learned behavior from 2 male dogs she hung around with. They humped so she started :) Then it became a new method of her to stop fights within our household or puppies that were getting to rowdy. We used to have Newf pup's came and stay to socialize before their show career and she would hump if they got out of hand. IMO this was a better method than using teeth or growling etc. I'm like Zumie, I would not tolerate this towards humans. Although I have met a few submissive females that were not dominant at all try to hump me at the kennel I worked at. They "learned" this behavior to gain attention...even negative attention was attention. These dogs were complete kennel dogs so to compete with the other kennel mates a few females had learned this behavior. I wasn't too worried about it being a dominance related behavior and knew it was an attention seeking behavior. I soon started ignoring the dog and only making of her when she sat down then I praised and made of her. I took a bad behavior and molded taught her a new way to gain attention. :) For these particular Newf it was more of an excitement action than anything else. When Tori our female was still intact and being bred the other girls Cassie and Athena would hump her! lol it was funny as Dillon our male Newf was supposed to breed her and the females had a better grasp on the breeding ordeal than he did. Like always the breeder ended up AI'ing Tori. She had one litter and was spayed, one of her puppies Madison is doing very well in the show ring :) Just to add as well at the kennel the intact dominant males never humped just for the sake of humping...yes, they would jump on board a female and go through the motions. But, the dogs I saw the most humping from were insecure dogs most were neutered males and would constantly hump their blankets. I looked at this as mainly insecurity. |

| Re: Humping??? my fern has never tried to hump a person or dog... but she does sometimes frantically hump her giant Eeyore toy - much to the amusement of my visitors one night!!!! Disney would not be happy though!!!! ***LOL!*** I figured it didn't really matter if she dominated her toy but if she ever attempted to do it to another dog or even worse a human she would be moved straight away! |

| Re: Humping??? Interesting, I guess I never put the two together... humping/dominance. Dixie (spayed female) gets very upset, charges/growls/shows teeth at an intact male dobie's attempt at humping her. So I guess she was saying NO to his attempt at dominance over her? Interesting!
