| My 1.5 year old male un-fixed rottie had his front paws up on the edge of our bed, and his rear paws on the floor. He does this everytime before he jumps on the bed to make sure there is room and he does not land on anything. Last night, he was in this position, waiting for us to make room for him and out of the blue he began to go through the breeding motions and released his male fluid. I was shocked, since I could not see what could cause such a sudden onset. The whole even lasted about 5 seconds. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance |

| Sounds like it is time to get him neutered and to get him out of your bed. Male dogs do get excited and stimulated. Gina

| Re: Random fluid release with my male rottie??? I am looking to breed him in the future. So I assume from your comment that this is a normal action for a non-neutered male? Thanks for the info : ) |

| Re: Random fluid release with my male rottie??? Yep, That kind of stuff sure does happen and worse!! I have to laugh really, I talked about stuff like that here in another thread and in other places I visit online and in person. Most people say " I was shocked" or "I never thought". People that are quick to let their dogs in their bedrooms and beds, sometimes have these kinds of little "surprises." I have known people who have had their dogs pee all over their beds "all of a sudden." I mentioned that in another thread here and the OP said why would he do that he has been house trained for some time--not understanding that it would have NOTHING to do with being house broken. I would suggest keeping this dog out of your bedroom for awhile---a long while. Rich |

| Re: Random fluid release with my male rottie??? he's 1.5 years old? Why do you he think he might be worthy of being bred in the future?

I would also like to know why you think your male is worthy of being bred? Has he got his Championship or Sieger titles? What other titles do you plan on getting on him (obedience, tracking, herding)??? When do you plan on doing all of the health certifications? Hips and elbows are done at 24 months, the eyes can be done now, as well as the heart. Gina

A properly trained and socialized intact male dog does not freely hump whatever objects he decides to hump. You have an training problem here. Unless this dog is a stellar representative of his breed with the titles to prove it, he should be neutered. But don't think that neutering alone is going to substitute for the training that he also needs. A dog that has been brought up to think that he calls the shots on who, what and when he humps and ejaculates on is a dog that is going to try to call the shots in all sorts of other ways as well. Book him an appointment for neutering, sign him up for a good obedience class, stop allowing him up on the bed and start being observant so you can recognize and address his other training gaps. | Re: Random fluid release with my male rottie??? I have had a few intact males and not one of them would ever think of doing what you describe. It is NOT something that should be laughed off and it certainly isn't normal. I am not saying that you need to take him to vet to find a medical reason why it happened, you need to see a person about training you to train your dog. My intact males don't get invited on the bed very often and certainly not at the young age of 1 1/2 years old. When they do get invited on the bed, they are not very comfortable with being up there because that is not their position. They get themselves off pretty quickly. This is not to say that they are uncomfortable about being on the furnature- they are very comfortable about that. ![]() This is the age that dogs see if they can move up their position in the house. If they think they deserve that higher position, you are going to be in a world of hurt and I do mean literally. I love my dogs dearly, but I make it very plain that they are lower then dirt. If there is any attempt to rise above dirt, I remind them that it is MY house and I make the rules, not them. My husband's dog is a 3 year old intact bitch. He spoils her and she knows she is spoilt, but she knows there is a line and she does NOT cross it. He does take her to bed and she sleeps on the bed until I get up there. I just have to walk into the room and she is getting off the bed. My husband thinks it is amazing she does it. I tell him that she knows her place is the floor and she accepts that without question.
