I cannot believe this...

Turbo is now 5 months old--almost 6-- and when we eat at the dinner table he would always lay down under my seat and play with his toys .. unfortunately my grandparents are staying with me for another month and my grandpa does not listen at all to me. he feeds turbo our food so now when we eat turbo puts his head on my lap or anyone else at the table--begging for food and i hate it!!!!

so i tied him in the kitchen where i can keep an eye on him while we would eat--and you know what he does!! he releases himself while he is tied up. this is not a one time incident--it has happened like 6/7 times. and yes--i do walk him so its not like he NEEDS to go to the bathroom. he is such a rebel and i really need advice. i even thought of taking turbo to my brothers house until my grandparents leave--but they are remodeling their entire house so i dont want to add stress to them---they do live 45 minutes away from me

helpppp!

thanksss

Re: I cannot believe this...

Do you have a crate? You can put him in there while you're all eating.

And since your grandpa is under YOUR roof, he's going to have to abide by your rules. When my mother comes over, I make it loud and clear what she can do with him and what she can't. My house, my dog, my rules. It'll be hard, but you have to put your foot down.

Re: I cannot believe this...

When there are people in my home that aren't listening to my rules, the dog stays in his crate. When they ask why they can't play with him, the answer is always because they are not abiding by my rules with my dog.

When you're eating, crate your dog. He won't pee in his crate.

Put your grandpa in a crate for a while or tie him up,so he can expirience the very uncomfortable situation he is bringing your dog in.

I guess I will crate him and I don't know if you were trying to be funny by saying to crate my grandfather--but I didn't enjoy that comment at all.

thanks for the advice.

This is exactly what I was going to say.

The dog shouldn't suffer because of a humans stupidity.

Oh,yes do that, put your dog away from the pack he's living in because you don't have the gutt's(or balls) to tell your grandfather to stop with his annoying behaviour. If it was MY dog ,he surely could count on my support.

Re: I cannot believe this...

who said I didn't have the balls .. you know the way you say things really offends people. would you like to be tied up with your older. seriously use your head. I do have the balls and tell him stop feeding my dog but he is old and does whatever he feels like. the issue is not about my grandfather .. its about turbo peeing when he is tied up for only 10-15 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please do not respond anymore(talking to obelix-i really do not want your input. you sound incredibly ignorant.)

Re: I cannot believe this...

Your pup is still quite young. His marking when tied up is his way of communicating to you his unhappiness. I realize that we all try to raise our dogs to be flexible in any situation but, again at his age he still has so much to learn.

Is your dogs behavior acceptable no, but I would be more apt to crate him during your mealtimes. I feel that by tying him up and then getting upset(not in any way implying you are taking it out on your dog) you are in a sense setting him up to fail.

Crate your boy with his own meal or a nice treat. He will be happy, will not act out with undesirable behavior and you will not have to worry about your grandpa sneaking him food. This will keep everyone(you, pup and grandpa) happy for the short time your grandpa is visiting.

And I really wouldn't worry to much about future behavior. I'm sure as your pup gets older and has a little more training under his belt he will not behave in this manner.

Re: I cannot believe this...

I would crate him; some dogs really freak out when they are tied up. When I groomed, some dogs never felt comfortable being "tied"; they also "released" themselves.

I know it may be hard to tell your grandfather he can't feed your dog. Can you tell him the vet said "no people food"? Then let grandpa join in on the training so he too can reward Turbo for being a good boy. Or let him take Turbo to his crate and give him a bully stick while you all enjoy your dinner.

This is so great I wish I would have thought of that...such a good way to socialize and train Turbo some more.
