Missed important intstruction

Just to lighten the load I thought I would share this with you.

I went to Crufts for a doggy day out and stayed over night locally. A work colleague who adores Teazle (and the feeling is mutual) looked after her in my house. As Teazle is 4 months post TPLO (rutured cruciate operation) I gave her a long, well, very long, list of do's and don'ts. Julie is a very responsible girl and I trusted her to do everything by the book.

However, I forgot a very important instruction.

Julie dutifully prepared Teazle's meal on the first evening and crushed her supplements in etc. Then she put it on the floor. Teazle had alreday come and was sitting waiting. Julie carried on doing something and noticed Teazle was not eating, so thinking she was just shy, Julie left the kitchen so Teazle could eat in peace. She returned about 15 mins later only to find Teazle still in the same position and the food untouched. Julie was very worried and bent down to her saying "are you ok Teazle?". At that moment she quickly started to tuck into her dinner.

The key word..."ok"...... I had forgotten to include in the instructions to give Teazle that release command.

I felt terrible when she told me.

And this is the same dog which stole my boss's sandwiches 3 times when he left them around !!!!!

That is so cute!! What a good dog; I feel 100% confident that my dog would NOT wait that long for the release word !

OH how wonderful your girlie is! that was my first good giggle of the day.

my son and daughter had a rottie once. One day dil came home, had to pee badly. she put dog's food down, he sat and waited. she ran to bathroom. when she came out, the cats were eating his food (he was very good with cats) and he was drooling. amazing dogs.

Re: Missed important intstruction

LOL!! What a good boy.
Reminds me of when we had our goldens...I had worked with them to not go down steps whenever anyone was on them as I didn't want them knocking down the kids on the stairs. We were visiting my mother-in-law and she was trying without any luck to get Brandy to go down into the basement...she kept calling her to "come" but Brandy just stood at the top of the steps. When we went over to see what the problem was, we noticed she was standing half way down the steps calling Brandy. We told her she had to walk all the way down and THEN call her...and once she was off the steps, Brandy walked right down.
Or like last night when hubby was letting the dogs outside for their last potty. Our foster refused to go out...Dave is literally shoving his butt out the door with Rocky not co-operating(and at 97 lbs it was a toss up as to who would win). Finally figured out that when I let the dogs out, I put them all in a sit stay and release our old girl, Kenya, to go out first. Rocky KNEW Kenya was supposed to go out first, Dave didn't. Once Kenya went out, Rocky was more than happy to follow her.
Hmmm, could we be OVERTRAINING our dogs????

Sometimes I wonder that too. My guy will eat only if I clap AND say eat dinner. He won't touch his food unless BOTH commands are given at the same time.

NO WAY - I just think we under estimate the consistency of our dogs.

In agility, on the startline I HAVE to raise my arm AND say "ok" or Bear looks at me as if to say "you seem to have forgotten how we play this game and I'm staying put until you remember". In this case it's a HUGE asset but it's funny all the same.
