Re: Chasing Trucks on Lead

Thanks, I have a lot of confidence in our vet that all will go well. Nevertheless, come Tuesday I will be a worried "mommy".

Re: Chasing Trucks on Lead

My Smokie does it to cyclists. As soon as he notices the bike, his ears go up. I tell him to sit and stay. If he does he gets a snack, if he bolts for the cyclist he gets choked (by the collar, not me!) :)

Seems to work

Yea, the combination of the choke collar, sit and stay followed by rewards works wonders. Those UPS trucks are a real challenge though. We will have to get right back to work on that after recovery from her surgery.

Best of luck with Greta's recovery.

If there's any way to expose her a UPS truck, let her sniff it out and treat her when she comes to you and ignores it, that would probably work. I actually found a FedEx guy who let me do this with a dog who had a nervous response to a FedEx truck. Not nearly so extreme as your girl. But the driver was a dog guy and understood the issue. I frequently wonder how much a difference in training it would make if dog lovers would make it known that we're willing to help each other.

Thank you.

I Love this idea Lengel. I can practice this tomorrow with both, as the crates will be arriving via UPS and the crate pads will be coming via FedEx. She is reactive with both of these. I will make some cookies today for the guys, and watch for them tomorrow. And then ask them if they would oblige. I'm pretty sure they will allow this. They are such wonderful delivery men, and our regular UPS man always leaves a big biscuit for each girl. It is time for me to make him some special Brown Sugar Cookies.
