Wink My Rott is peeing on me!

My 6 Month Old Rott Brutus Pee's On Me. Sounds Ridiculous! I'm Sitting On The Couch...he Comes Up...lifts Leg And Pee's!not Cool! Let Me Say That He Is For The Most Part Potty Trained. He Also Has This Weird Way Of Peeing Whenever He Is Scared. You Honestly Would Sometimes Think We Beat Our Dog. Never Would Do Such A Thing But You Would Also Think That A Male Rott Is A Little More Tougher Than That. It's Weird..he's A Great Dog. Never Even Chewed Up Anything But A Hat..he Knows His Boundries But Has No Confidence. Help!!!!!!

Get this dog into obedience classes with a qualified instructor well versed in Working breeds, and learn how to be a proper leader.

Coming up to you and lifting his leg??? Hardly anything to about!!! He has more confidence than you think, and he apparently does NOT know his boundaries, or he'd not be doing this.

Exactly what circumstances are you allowing that throw him on his back and pee submissively? You are in charge of his environment. You are his protector. Please get with the program.

It sounds as though you need much help in understanding dog behavior, and your dog will thank you if you would put some time/effort into seeking proper assistance.

Re: My Rott is peeing on me!

I am pretty sure that lifting his leg on you while you are sitting on the couch is DOMINANCE not submission. Please get to a trainer before things go really bad

Re: My Rott is peeing on me!

Save some $$$.... This is definetly a serious unacceptable behavior problem.Buy the time you get this dog to school he'll have peed on you a few more times.Time for this dog to be trained "Old School".... Knock the living s**t out of him the next time he does it. I can just betcha that he will think twice before peeing on your leg again. This is something that must be corrected IMMEDIATELY....

Re: My Rott is peeing on me!

Not sure about knocking the living **** out of him.(hope you were kidding Leige)...but leg lifting is something that needs to be corrected immediately. a loud, harsh verbal correction at the very least. Maybe let him drag a leash in the house for a quick correction when needed. I put leg lifting in the house right up there with humping....zero tolerance.

No I am not kidding leanershnitzel. One way and the only way to correct this behavior is a very good hard slap upside the head along with a very harsh correction. Ever hear the saying 1st time shame on you 2nd time shame on me, well there would not be a second time...

Re: My Rott is peeing on me!

I wouldn't hit my dog but would give him a good hard correction with is choke collar and leash. Hitting would only make your dog fearful and break his trust in you. My male also did the marking in my house although not on me. He lifted his leg in the house and peed once. I got ready for the next time as I slapped on a leash and waited. I gave him a big correction (using collar and leash) and he never did it again. There ARE other options in training other than hitting. I would hate to see my dog lose his trust in me or feel he had to cower from ME. Maybe that should be under How Not To Train thread.

Re: My Rott is peeing on me!

Sounds like a dominance issue for sure. It's hard to look at your 6 month puppy and think "dominance" but this is when he will start testing you to see how far he can go and what he can get away with ! Make sure he knows without a doubt this is NOT acceptable behaviour with lots of noise and correction and obedience classes - work-work-work !!! Best of luck and let us know what happens !

Re: My Rott is peeing on me!

Well I'm going to have to disagree that a slap is the only way to correct this behaviour Leige. I've never hit my dogs and never will. All my corrections come through either the voice or the leash.
They have had some whoppers in terms of physical corrections, but my hands are for feeding, lovin' and praise.
My boy tried this a few times..but the my sudden reactions and severe verbal reprimand left an impression on him, and he hasn't tried it since. No hitting involved.
Our training methods differ I suppose.

Re: My Rott is peeing on me!

Oh nuh uh *shakes head*. After the shock of getting pee'd on the first time (intentionally that is), I would have been ready for the second one. Gotta agree with Poohbearsmom on this. Get with someone who can help you train this pup correctly.

This is dangerous advice. I would implore anyone who reads this advice to completely ignore it.

Thank you, thank you, Roscoe. This abismally poor advice is how a bully would handle a situation. The OP should not have allowed the behavior to continue, but he did. The dog should not get a beating because of that. Anyone who is truly interested in developing a good working relationship with his dog understands that beating is not the way to achieve that.

Knocking the living crap out of a 6mos old dog is not a good idea.Learning how to be a benevolent leader is.

Old school is called old school for a reason. I believe in corrections, corrections should be fair and humane and logical. Yes, this young boy should be corrected, but hitting is not acceptable, IMHO. This person needs education desperately, and offering advice to strike a young dog is dangerous advice. If hitting a dog is the best advice you can give, Leige, I feel sorry for your dogs.

This dog is showing his place in the house(and is marking it) It is dominance ,plain and simple. As stated several times in other threads on this board, an owner should at least be capable to understand the basics in the language of the dog.

Following the quoted advice will only bring trouble for you and your dog.Don't you ever forget this:if you beat your dog as suggested by Leige,he will turn against you one day or another(when you have a weaker moment)They never forget .Interaction with your dog is based on trust and respect.Follow the quoted advice and you will loose both.

That would probably be the most uneducated and ridiculous advice I've ever seen on this forum. I feel sorry for your dogs Leige.
