| Puppy gets extremely excited when first person comes over my house. I have a 9 month old male rottie and whenever i have company over he gets EXTREMELY excited for the first person. He will run around full speed and jump all over the place and bite on their hands, he wont bite aggressively but he does bite hard enough that it hurts. This will go on for about 15 minutes or so then he'll calm down. After that first 15 minutes he wont care who else comes over, he'll greet them at the door for a minute then go sit down or lay down. Lately i have started making him sit or lay down when someone is at the door which helps a little bit but he still does the biting of the hands when they try to pet him. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. |

| Re: Puppy gets extremely excited when first person comes over my house. I have learned with my 8 month old that I have to control him before I even attempt to open the door. Otherwise, once he is too excited you can't even get their attention to calm them down. I tried having friends knock at the door and then making him sit. The door does not open until he is relaxed and ignoring the door and looking at me. If he tried to get up while I was opening the door, I would shut the door and make him sit again. The door does not open until he is at a sit-wait and the door does not remain open if he does not hold his sit. It's best to practice this with friends first to get it down pat so that you are not opening your door to unsuspecting people and immediately slamming it in their face. Could loose a lot of friends and family this way! |

| Re: Puppy gets extremely excited when first person comes over my house. Put him in his crate with a bone before your company arrives. Once he is calm, he is allowed out. Keep him on a leash until he is 100% trustworthy with his behavior. Don't let your company pet, talk, or even look at him until he is minding his manners. Eye contact is a "reward" of sorts. DO NOT let him continue this behavior; allowing it means that it is acceptable to act this way. Good luck ![]()

| Re: Puppy gets extremely excited when first person comes over my house. Either put him in a crate when you have company over, or leash him to you until he calms down. You need to get in control of this dog! This is rude and unacceptable behavior. When your guests arrive, tell them to ignore the dog completely. Do no look at him, touch him, say anything to him. When the dog is calmly sitting at your feet, then he gets rewarded with some pets or attention. The dog cannot jump and bite at people if he's leashed to you and in a down-stay. Are you two in classes? OB training would help you learn how to train him properly. |
