Ok Anna is now starting to bite mack's hind leg as soon as I let them out of the house or the kennel... She runs after him and starts biting his back leg, just the one.. No broken skin just very tender.. She goes in on the 12th to be tied so I am hoping that maybe its all hormonal. I give them both the same amount of attention I dont play favorites with these two. But I have no Idea how to stop this behavior it is not acceptable. I stop her and tell her no and she listens till my back is turned then bam shes at it again... Mack is getting tender there and I dont want any damage and I DO NOT want him to turn on her and do damage to her....please some one besides going back to training classes tell me what is going on and how to stop her.

Re: Shes starting to bite!!!!!! Don't treat your dog like equals. A dog isn't a child and he won't get his feelings hurt if he's lower on the totem pole in the pack. It doesn't matter if he's #3 in the house or #23 in the house. He will be happy either way as long as he knows his place. Sounds to me like your dog doesn't really know his place and is therefore struggling to move up the ladder. I would observe your dogs carefully and figure out which one seems to be the natural alpha. Then, I would make sure that I always greeted that dog first. Fed that dog first. Played with that dog first. Ect. Only after I spent time with that dog, would I even acknowledge the other ones existence. It may sound cruel, but it will be comforting to your dogs to have a family atmosphere they understand. Perhaps, once your dogs figure out their place in your 'pack' they will quit trying to prove stuff to each other?

Re: Shes starting to bite!!!!!! You're the leader. If you don't like something you see your subordinates doing, step in and put an end to it. If Anna is bullying her brother and he's too soft to stop her, you step in and put an end to it. If she doesn't know how to play nice, don't let her play with Mack. Are they in class? Anna sounds as tho she needs to be taken down a peg or two.

Sounds like this dog needs training and needs to be listening to you. What do you do when she goes after your other dogs leg? Keep her on a leash and give her a good correction, so that she knows that she is NOT allowed to behave this way. What does your male dog do? Does he not object to being bitten? ![]() How much exercise are these dogs getting? Sounds like she is over excited about being let out of the crate or kennel...and has too much energy and takes it out on the other dog. Gina

Re: Shes starting to bite!!!!!! Well we are going back to classes Anna and I.. And yes she will be spayed on the 12th. Mack does not do anything when she bite his hind leg... I dont know we had some problems a bit ago about the food and that is when she started this.. Hes younger and bigger. But still a pup, he started pushing her out of the way and eating her food after he finished, soon after we started the biting. I corrected his problem by swithing to feed him first and to give him an extra cup of food. And for two days I had to stay with them why they were eating just to make sure he left her alone. Told him no and made him sit there till Anna was done then I let him know that he was a good boy for not eating her food..

| Re: Shes starting to bite!!!!!! I would seperate the dogs when eating. You are just asking for problems feeding them together. They are dogs. They should be able to sit next to each other and recieve a treat from you, but actual meals are not meant to be shared, and it is just not a good idea to feed them at the same time and in the same location. | I had a similar problem with my dogs, all it took was some good separation. They ate in completely different rooms for almost a month and now are civil enough to eat at least in the same room. My smaller dog (border collie) was biting at Zeus my rotty and Zeus as well as yours never even flinched or attempted to bite back. I broke this behavior, but you have to break it now. I found that giving more attention to the biter made him feel a little better about there being a new puppy in the house. It was his house first and hes just trying to show that. After correction after correction, they learn. Just keep up the training. Trust me if you correct it, it will stop. The funny thing is Zeus hasn't gone to training YET, and Bailey has! Funny how Bailey would end up behaving like that. Looks like I will be enrolling 2! :) |
