i need help understanding...

why Resees would want to take one shoe and not chew it but just take it?

when no one is home she will grab either my wifes or my shoe (just one shoe too mind you) and take it some where that she lays down. i am kinda confused as to why she would do this, she does not chew it or even mouth it just lays with it.

Re: i need help understanding...

It's an attention thing. The pup I had did this all the time, and my boy would do this when I left, (as if I had eyes in the back of my head, and would come back to take it from him.) Also, shoes are what you put on when you go out, so if they take your shoes, you can't go.

Tavi steals my daughters clothing but has never damaged it. Odd creatures.

This is just a scent thing. I had a few dogs that did this. It is their way of keeping you close even when you are gone. I think it comforts them.

Bear does this too, with hats and shoes, I assumed it was because these items smell strongly of us.

Greta does this too. Shoes, shirts. We have to make sure closet doors are closed or we will be looking in the back yard for our things. She takes them out the doggie door.

I agree with Goforit, since she does not chew it, she most probably misses you and feels secure holding something with your smell.

Hey pbhound,

I bought a book about dog behaviour. It explains why dogs do certain things that leave us puzzled.

The shoe behaviour you mentioned is because she misses you and wants something that belongs and smells of you near her

Quick! Go home give her a hug now

Ellie sleeps in the "small" laundry basket when we are gone. Definately think it is scent related
