Arrow Re: Carrying rubbish home- why?

My 3rd rottie-Zepellin-used to pick up traffic cones!!! He loved them and would struggle to carry them home-some were like 3 feet tall and he would grab them and figure out a way to carry them. It was weird, only orange trafffic cones-i had to throw away 6 of them when i moved!!

Re: Carrying rubbish home- why?

Gunner likes to pick up trash and such too-except I really cant let him because he likes to munch on it. So I steer him away from it, pick it up before he does, or make sure he knows I am not going to let him pick it up.

He will try to eat anything from a 7-eleven cup to plastic straw wrappers, to things unidentifiable! EEEEWWWWWW. (Alot of fun being the marinated trash pick up, let me tell you!)

I like that idea, I'm going to go and get me a small duffek bag, and put things in it for DC to carry. Thanks for the advice!

Re: Carrying rubbish home- why?

Besides giving the dog a job to do, have you noticed that passersby love to see a dog carrying something? A dog suddenly appears to be well trained and super cute when he carrying something his mouth. By the way, the best way to make an old toy seem new is to run them through the washing machine. This fools my dogs every time. They like fresh sheets on their beds and new toys.... Oh and I wish I could have seen Zep hauling a traffic cone!

Re: Carrying rubbish home- why?

Max never even tried to pick up items during a walk. But Dylan, 11 months has his "collection". This collection ranges from sticks, empty plant holders, empty soda bottles, and pvc pipe stolen from hubby's garage. He carries one item then drop it to collect the "next" item along the way. I do go down our lane (private) picking up occasionally as it gets quite trashy looking. But he too, struts, head held high showing off each item.

Re: Carrying rubbish home- why?

You are sooo right Lovemypuppies. I always take Teazle to the village shop with me. When I come out I give her a carrot which she then carries home. The look on people's faces is wonderful and actually does a good thing for the breed too...it helps to change the image from a "devil dog" to a cutie.

I love the cone carrier !!!!!
