Rott Seems Timid

I have a 14 mo. old rott. he seems a little timid at times, mainly around other dogs. He's also very friendly, He wont even bark if someone comes in the yard. I dont want him to attack everyone who comes over but I didnt want a cat either. is this normal... as he gets older will he get more dominant. Hes never been hit or anything. I did take him to obediance training. could this have anything to do with it?

Re: Rott Seems Timid

You have a puppy. Puppies should be outgoing and friendly. If your puppy at this age was suspicious and hesitant around strangers, you should be in a panic because this points to weak nerves and an unstable temperament. To me, your guy sounds perfect in terms of his approach to the world.

Obedience training is the best thing in the world you can do for your puppy, so keep that up.

Re: Rott Seems Timid

Obedience training would have nothing to do with his current temperament. As a matter of fact, he should still be in training, redoing classes over and over again until he is mature. Get him back into training, and talk to your trainer about positive reinforcement training. It sounds as if he needs someone to help you understand how to develop his confidence and give him a bit more stability to his temperament.

good luck

I agree he sounds like a normal puppy. Would love to see pics. Just give him time to be a puppy and keep up the training.
