Peeing in the house

This really makes me mad, for the last couple of weeks Max keeps peeing in the house every day, i leave the back door open for him day and night, all he has to do is go outside and pee but he doesn't. I taught him from a puppy to be toilet trained, and he was brilliant in my last house, then when i shout at him for peeing he growls and barks at me fiercely, it's as if he thinks he owns the house, which makes me even more mad. I haven't long moved house so maybe that could be it!!!

Re: Peeing in the house

How old is Max? How long ago did you move into the new house?

Are you shouting at him AFTER he has pee'd ? If so, STOP - he has NO CLUE why you're yelling at him! You're 'barking' at him so he barks back !

If you catch him in the act, THEN give him a quick "HEY" and usher him outside quickly and CALMLY. PRAISE him when he goes outside. THEN clean up the mess inside using a good enzyme cleaner to completely get rid of the odor.

Re: Peeing in the house

A trainer once told me that if it looks as tho your trained dog suddenly doesn't seem to be trained, take a couple of steps back and retrain.

If Max was housetrained in your last home, simply start housetraining him in your new home. Stop yelling at him and start re-housetraining him.

Post Re: Peeing in the house

How old is he? Is he still intact?
Sounds like he is marking. Was there dogs living in this house before? It could be he smells them and is covering up the scent with his own urine.

You need to clean the urine with a enzyme type of cleaner....bought at petstores. Stop giving him free access to the house...block off the room that he is peeing in.

You also must stop yelling at him...only correct him if you catching peeing...otherwise it's too late.

Sounds like you also may need to step up the training with him....start doing 10-15 minutes a day of obedience drills, and start doing NILIF with him.
He sounds like he is getting too full of himself...peeing in your home and growling back at you.

Re: Peeing in the house

Hi all, Max is 15 months old, we moved house about 2 months ago, i have another dog she is a girl, i did have a staffordshire bull terrier also, he was a boy but we havent got him now, i do shout at him when i see that he has pees and he runs out the back door, when he comes back in he is quiet and lays in his bed just looking at me.

It might be also where he can still smell the staff i used to have, can't see that tho, i'll have to do the training again till he stops peeing.

Thanks.

Post Re: Peeing in the house

Your boy is at the age where they often need to have their training upped.
I would have him neutered, it will help with the marking behaviour.

Is your female spayed? If not, she may be coming into heat.

What happened to the Staffy?

Re: Peeing in the house

I have thought of having him neutered perhaps then it will calm him down a bit, my partner doesn't want to have him neutered as he wants to breed him with his friends dog!

I was going to get my girl spayed but haven;t got round to doing it with work and things, i think she may be coming on heat come to think of it, she hasn't been on heat for a while now.

We had to get rid of the Staffy b/c when we moved he was very unsettled crying and barking and not eating we even took him to the vets and they gave him tablets but that didn help, and the neighbours kept complaining about the noise he was making, soo sadly we had to gave him away. Shame really as he was a lovely dog....

Re: Peeing in the house

Please get you male neutered...and the female spayed.
Life will be much easier in your home if they are...keeping two intact dogs is not recommended for most people.

Please read the "sticky" posts in the Breeding Forum, and do not become a BYB.

Neuter the dog, and get back into training with him....life will only get worse with him, the older he gets.

Re: Peeing in the house

I would get both dogs spayed/neutered. After reading through what the good breeders go through (certifications, stud shopping, whelping, socialization, puppy owner selection, etc.), there is NO WAY my house will ever see a litter of puppies. It's just too much work for me. I don't about you, but I have enough on my plate just maintaining the training of my dogs.

Re: Peeing in the house

Please stop yelling at your dog. All you are doing is confusing him. Have him neutered and have the female spayed.

Unless you are an experienced and knowledgeable breeder don't even think of breeding these two dogs. There are far too many unwanted, homeless Rottweilers in pounds and shelters.

Read the sticky posts in the Breeders Forum.

Re: Peeing in the house

I agree with what the others have said.

Sounds like you dog has too much freedom now, or your not paying too much attention to him. If he drinks or gets up from a nap or after alot of activity, he should be lead outside to urinate.

Yelling at the dog is confusing him.

Maybe more attention and exercise could help.

Do you currently crate your dogs or are they alone for any length of time?

Jeff

Re: Peeing in the house

I leave my back door open constantly i never shut it, so i dont see why he cant go outside and pee, he is very bouncy and he doesn't keep still at all and he doesn't sleep much. I don't crate him, i work 9 till 5, i have 1hour for lunch as i dont live far away from where i work i go home every day to feed them and see them.

Re: Peeing in the house

It does not matter that he has access to the outside...he is an intact male and he is MARKING.
He is using his urine to tell other dogs that he lives there and that he owns it.
You also have an unspayed female?

Please get the female spayed and have the male neutered and the marking problems should go away. Because you keep the door opened...he thinks the inside of the house, is the outside and using it to mark in.

Re: Peeing in the house

I have started to close the door, when i am in the house, as before i used to leave the door open when i was there, but even with the door closed he is still peeing!

My partner and I took him to my partners mothers house and he peed inside the house, but then when i took him to my mothers he didn't pee at all! I'd love to know what he is thinking by doing this, as he is really getting on my nerves now!!!!

We are moving in a couple of weeks, where there is an even bigger garden and a big shed and a run for him!!
