Jumping side to side We have almost got Georges nipping for atention stopped, but now he's jumping side to side and up and down. He's acting like a bunny rabbit..LOL ...when he was nipping for atention we would leave the room or gate him away from us and that is working. Now this bunny thing we can't get ahold of him to make him stop because he thinks it's a game and if I try to walk away from him he does it more .I take him for 2-30 minute walks a day and I take him down to the school to pick-up the kids which takes about 30 minutes.I've tried to cut back on cookies with training I use his dog food now. Do you think this is the new zoomies and if it is I like the old zoomies when he ran and ran...Oh George is 8 1/2 months old..

Re: Jumping side to side Do you play with him? There's a time to train, a time to play, and a time to settle. My girlie is a rabbit, too, so I allow her to satisfy that need during our rabble rousing playtimes in the back yard. I must say I have a heck of a lot of fun with her! And then..............when it's time to train, or to settle........I expect her to switch gears and focus on the task at hand, which she is able to do because those rascally rabbit leaping zoomies have already been taken care of. Establish a schedule that takes both your dog's and your needs into consideration, and use it. There are concessions that can be made, but some things are just plain mandatory, and ZOOOOOMIES are one of them in my house. Work with it instead of against it.

Re: Jumping side to side I love the zoomies to...Yes I do play with him lots because I'm home with him 24-7...He loves tag and hide and seek...When I'm watching the news with my husband out comes the bunny, but if I'm downstairs watching TV with my kids he just lays at my feet...come to think of it even when my husband and I are talking he does it...wow didn't think of that...need to fix that

Re: Jumping side to side Our guy is 7 and he does this when he wants attention. He literally bounces side to side and woofs at the same time (not a full bark, but a little woof). If you have a toy and he's waiting for you to throw it, he does it. Or if he wants your attention. He also does it to let us know he has to go out sometimes followed by him running to the door and ringing the bell we have on the doorknob. We let him do it during playtime, but if we're relaxing or something we just taught him to "settle" or lie down next to us and we'll scratch him or something if he's just wanting attention. He swings his head when bounces from side to side letting the little woof out at the end of the swing...REALLY FUNNY!

Re: Jumping side to side It's nice to know that Neesha isn't the only Rottie who does the bouncy thingy - which I recently nicknamed the pogo-jump. I have found the only times she does this is when we get ready to go for a walk or more often when I grab my keys and tell her we're going somewhere in the car. Neesha is only 18 months old and started doing this bouncy thingy in the past month or so. I figure it's her way of letting me know she's excited about going out, but if I need her to calm down, I change my tone of voice and tell her to calm down or sit down until we're ready to go. It took her a few tries to finally understand that I'm in charge, but now she will stop and listen to me right away.

Re: Jumping side to side I'm not clear if your dog is jumping at strangers or whether he is doing this with you. My sister has a gsd that she complained was nipping at men's crotches. She said he'd do the deed and then run so you couldn't grab him to do any type of correction. Although not the same behaviors, I think the same approach might work....I told her to keep him on leash. That way you can give appropriate corrections/prevent misbehavior. The behavior will eventually self-extinguish (since he can no longer do it), or he will LEARN not to do it (through corrections). I am such a fan of leashing a dog until it learns how to behave appropriately. Best of luck with him.

Re: Jumping side to side Our first girl Basia did the bunny hop every single day for the 12 years she was with us. She would do it when she wanted to go out, when it was time to eat and whenever she decided she wanted a hug from my mom. Yes, she actually liked hugs, especially from grandma.
