splashing in her drinking water..

Whats the deal with her putting her feet in her water while shes drinking it and making a kind of digging action with her paws? She does this everytime she drinks and makes one hell of a mess. Its like she only wants the water from the bottom of the bowl. Shes also got a habbit of putting all of her snout under water to get to the bottom. Is it just my dog that does this?

Took a couple of pics today of her whilst out walking

She's young! She finds it fun, and... NO! .. you are not the only person to have this "fun" behaviour occur!

I had a Rott X that would do this in a plastic kiddie pool for hours!!!!!!!

Re: splashing in her drinking water..

Oh, she plays submarine with her nose too!! She's young and curious, enjoy it, it's rather funny when they do it.
My girl, is 14 months old and doesn't do it anymore. She would constantly stick her snout in the bowl and let the water drip off her nose. Then she'd watch the droplets hit her bowl, and then .... SPLASH in went the paws. I would keep a large towel under her water bowl. It makes for easy clean up!

My shephard did that so much that we had to go buy a wash tub, so he will have water... I got a kiddy pool, didn't last a couple of hours and he had a hole in it. He loves the water

Re: splashing in her drinking water..

If you think the behavior is adorable enjoy it. If not ,you may want to try elevated water dish in a stand. We had to get one for Lola after some one slipped in the flood. Personally, I thought it was just so darn cute, I couldn't wait for her to take a drink.

Re: splashing in her drinking water..

Our puppy does the same thing, we get a giggle from her antics and keep lots of towels near the water bowl for clean up after Carma is done playing!
Don't you just love the sense of fun they find in EVERYTHING??!!

Re: splashing in her drinking water..

Emmy still does it and she just turned 4! She LOVES water. She even has her own inground pond that she loves to get in after playing to cool off. She will put her head under the water, act like she is diggin and splash and my personal favorite, she does what we call sharking! She looks just like a shark with it's mouth open getting ready to bite. She holds her mouth wide open then moves her head forward thru the water so that it fills her mouth and makes her cheeks bulge out then she pulls her head out and shakes it like crazy. It is hilarious! I'm glad that she hasn't lost her sense of humor just because she is getting older!

Re: splashing in her drinking water..

Hi Darren,

You can add my Ella to the list of water terrorists. She will usually end a super psycho-running, chewing, fighting with Satchmo, romp with a dive into the water bowl followed by a frenzied "bailing out" of ALL the water from bowl to floor.

After her mission is accomplished, she then wants to cuddle with me. How can I say no? It makes an incredible mess, but she has such joy in the doing. My older puppy, Satch, looks on bewildered by her mania. What a pair.

Enjoy!
