Thumbs up Rotty Yelping!!!!

I was walking My Maxi yesterday when a girl came over and asked how old he was I said 15 weeks, as she went to touch him, he sat down and started yelping really loud for about 2 mins at that point the girl hadn't touched him, i checked him over and he looked fine wasn't limping at all and was fine when i was walking him, then as i got the top of my street an oldish man was coming towards us, he held his arm out to smoothe Max and he backed away and cowered down, I have never seen him do this before. I don't want him to be scared of people and cower down to them when they reach out and go to stroke him.....Does anyone have any suggestions why Maxi could have done this?

Thanks

Re: Rotty Yelping!!!!

It sounds like he was really scared...is there any chance that someone could have hit him or hurt him while you weren't around. I'm sure that could make him afraid of strangers all of a sudden.

Or maybe the two strangers were wearing hats, scarves or the older man had a cane that spooked him.

It does sound bizarre to me that a normally outgoing pup would all of a sudden be afraid of strangers.

Re: Rotty Yelping!!!!

Hi Ayokya, I am with him 24/7 I would never let anyone hurt my baby, he has never been like that before ever, the young girl was only wearing a jacket, and the old man didn't have anything to spook my baby, it was really weird as i was feeling very upset that he reacted like that, I haven't a clue why he did it!!! Really weird

Re: Rotty Yelping!!!!

Puppies are like children in that they go through stages (like babies go through shy spells)

The more sensitive the pup is the more dramatic the expression of these stages will be

In pups these stages are often called fear periods.

Keep getting him out with friendly people and treats and try to read up here about stages and fear periods (see puppy development section)

Re: Rotty Yelping!!!!

I think you need to get some help ASAP.

I also read your other post: http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/beh...wling-etc.html

It is hard to say exactly what is going on from here with 100% accuracy, but IMO you have some serious issues to work through with this puppy and you need to seek an experienced trainer NOW. Before you lose whatever chance you have left to get things going in the right direction.

Re: Rotty Yelping!!!!

I agree, my Argo is currrently going to a behaviorist for the week to do some intensive training. Since our Vet made us not take him outside much until his 3rd shot, he was very isolated and has since developed a real fear of people and larger groups of dogs. Our behaviourist is able to work with him under a safe and intensive environment, without my wife and I there as his security. I would suggest taking him to doggie daycare and or a nice boarding place where he can be safe and experience new things without you, that way it will build confidence for the dog while teaching it to handle things on their own.
