Talking Rotti Crying

Hi. I'm new to this forum, so please forgive me if this is a repeated topic. Our rotti is about 3 years now (we adopted in Dec 2003 - we don't know her exact age) and is such a loving, even-tempered baby! She gets plenty of attention and exercise and lots and lots of love, but she will cry/howl for seemingly no reason. We could be lying on the couch, cuddling with her or playing with her or she could be out on the step after scratching to get outside and she will just start. It's heart-wrenching to hear it because it sounds like there's something wrong, we just can't figure out what it is. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Berry's mom

Re: Rotti Crying

Rotts talk a lot....dunno if that is what she is doing...but it could be her way of joining in on the conversation. If it sounds like she is hurting at all, I would recommend taking her to a vet. And I had a little dog once, with a hearing problem, and he cried when he "heard" something that the rest of the world could not seem to.....

Good luck!

Re: Rotti Crying

My Otto does that and has been for most of his life (he is 9 now). All of a sudden he will just start howling whether he is in or out! Sometimes we do hear a very distant siren and that is why he is howling. Maybe he hear things that only he can hear. It is kinda like the things only cats can see. We haven't figured it out, but he is not in any pain. It is still hard to hear. But if we tell him to stop, he does and then goes about his business.

Have you noticed any sirens in your area when she starts crying?

No, there are no sirens when she does this. In fact, we've been to parades and such where there are a lot of sirens and loud noises that she doesn't bother with. Lots of times when this happens, she doesn't look to the doors or windows like she does when she's reacting to a noise.
