| 8 week old dog, growling etc Hi all, I have recently bought a Rotty he is 8 weeks old, i have 2 other dogs also, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and a German Sheperd x Rottweiler, I now have been feeding him before my other dogs as he is really greedy and he goes to eat the others food afetr he finishes his. I have hugged him and kissed him since i had him, which was last Thursday, today my partner was making a little noise and kissing him, and he was growling and he bit him on the face, then after i held him i kissed him and he growled at me, but then a few minutes after i kissed him again he didn't do anything, does this sound strange? my dogs have been playing with him, and he sometimes growls and starts jumping around biting their tails and face. Would this make him nasty by playing with my other dogs? Also i am wondering if he would be protective of me more than my partner, as i am not working at the moment, and spend every day with him, where as my partner works 8:00am till 6:00pm, would this make him nasty around my partner when he grows up? |

| Re: 8 week old dog, growling etc I am not an expert but when my rottie was a pup she had similar behavior and with some training she became a wonerful and obedient dog. I have 2 little kids running around too. She is so good with other dogs now and grew out of play biting and growling. We had the same work situation and the dog was great around both me and my partner. Good luck |

| Re: 8 week old dog, growling etc You need to go up to the top of the screen and do a "search" on "puppy biting", as well as "hugging."...Lots of great info. ![]() |

| Re: 8 week old dog, growling etc Read the other posts that have been recommended. And then, remember that this is a DOG, not a human. Quit trying to kiss him on the face! Even if your other dogs like to be hugged and kissed, many rottweilers do not. He has already given you and your partner a message not to do it. The bigger he gets, the harder he will bite. If you do not want to have vet bills, I would separate him from the other dogs while they are eating. They should not have to protect their food from him. They are going to end up biting him in order to do so. Read everything you can on puppies here in the archives. You need to put some rules down for this pup and learn how to treat and train a rottweiler. Good luck with him, and please keep asking questions. You can learn a lot from the experienced people who are here.
