| Hello I have adopted a katrina storm rottie she is my first one. I am so excited She should be here at home in a week.(update maybe by friday) I have a Pug and an English Bully I got them both as little babies. She seems to have been abused a little and hits the ground when voices are raise (according to the foster) Other than that she is friendly and loving. I want to do this correctly and give her the best home I can. I will need TONS of advice and will post tons of stuff I am sure once she gets home. My first Question is how do I socialize her with the other two dogs the first few days? |

| Re: katrina rottie coming home You'll get a ton of info from people on RDN. In my experience, introduce slowly and under careful supervision. I adopted two Rotties (male and Fem) when I had Buster (a 3 yr old male Rottie). I introduced each one outside of the yard, in the street. Then we went for a 30 minute walk, after that went well. When we got back, we all went in the backyard together. In my experience, they got along great!!! The dogs were separated a night for a week or so and feed separately until I was sure no issues developed. I was home for at least a week so I could give appropiate supervison to all of the dogs. A routine is important so she understands that she isn't going to be moved around any more. JR was an abused dog and sounds similar to your adoptee. I just use positive training methods and she is a great dog. Unfortunetly due to her past, I haven't been able to do things like herding, as she shuts down when corrections are given. Be patient with your new girl, let her know the rules in a positive way and keep an eye on her to make sure she is adapting well. |

| Re: How to socialize a rescue with current household dogs? It is a great idea to let their first meeting be outside and away from the house. Actually, all of szky's advice sounds right on to me. Congrats to you for getting involved with the Katrina effort!!!!! Spend a lot of time on these forums searching around--you'll find answers to nearly everything. How old is the Rottie?

| Hi Ula is about 19months old. So far she has gotten along with all the dogs at her foster mommy's. But I want to do it correctly. I had an old Lab once who like everyone but people outside his yard? very funny as long as you were in the house it was fine but walk byhis yard watch out. He didnt start that until he was about 7 years old though before that he was just fine. |
