dog fights.

this morning I awoke to the sounds of dog fighting. Somehow John allowed Boris and Gobie together. we have fail-safe methods for preventing this, but don't ask. no harm done to Gobie but I have a few questions.

1. Gobie is always the one who mixes it up first. Boris only hesitates a split second before defending himself. Does an episode like this set us back in training?

2. Gobie is much smaller and weaker. I think if Boris meant to do serious harm, he would have in the 30 seconds or so he had Gobie down with head in mouth...

I have no doubt that it is deadly and serious, but just trying to determine if he is showing some inhibition with the old guy.

Shar peis have very strange skin. it tears very easily, and heals quickly. So the old guy has a few tears, around his eye wrinkles, but he is strutting around lifting his leg, scratching the ground, acting happy like he really enjoyed himself.

Re: dog fights.

Some of the dogs I walk are never happier than when they've had a good scuffle....they get bright eyes and look so pleased with themselves...Border Terriers are always out for trouble....trembling with excitement when they think there's something they can attack....keen little eyes..

Maybe Gobie is just happy that he survived! Or maybe he thought he "won!!"

I don't think this would affect Boris' training...it's just between him and Gobie. He should know the difference...

Give John a little smack upside the head for letting this happen!

Re: dog fights.

Yes, he thinks he won. he was wagging and strutting and scruffing the dirt with his legs. Looking at him you'd say, 'well I'd hate to see the loser'. He has a nasty cut above his eye. He has bad hind legs though, and the exertion on his legs made his drains from old surgery start running. Boris didn't go anywhere near his poor old legs. silly dog. I couldn't hit John, he feels bad enough!
