Adopting a Pug

Hi all,

I have two rotties, ages 8 and 9, both very sweet, and want to rescue a pug.

I have contacted a pug rescue and there is a waiting list - in the meantime, I wanted to ask you guys if you ever introduced a small dog with two large ones. I do have two cats (they now are living with my daughter in NYC) so I know they don't mind small creatures - but a dog is a dog, not a cat, so am wondering if you can give me words of wisdom regarding the introductions, they better sex to get (my female is more alpha than the male with other dogs, male alpha with humans).

My in laws also have a 4 year old boxer girl who comes often and hangs out with us so she can run around our yard, and all the dogs get along famously.

My concern is obviously given the small size of the pug - want to make sure all works out -

Hope you can help me!

xoxo Claudia

My Pugs were adults when Guerin came here as a pup and he was just taught from the jump, that there would be no pestering the little dogs. They now boss him around and he defers to them. We had a female Rottweiler, Raven, and she was just a love and never had any problems with the small dogs.
I don't think I would do anything special as far as introductions, and by that I mean, handle it the same as you would for any dog, large or small. Lots of supervision!

A friend of mine has two adult rotties and added the pugs to the mix - they are all best buds...took some adjusting on everyones part but they all get along really well.

If working with a pug rescue I would hope they'd help match the dog with your home and current canine situation so everyone would be happy...

Ok, So I have 3 large dogs in my house: GSD (5), Rott (2) and a Rott mix (3). We added a pug to our family about 2 1/2 weeks ago and my feeling is that as long as your dogs are well socialized, it should not be any different then introducing a dog of any other size. Supervise, supervise, supervise...... if they get over stimulated seperate them calm then down and then go again. Everyone is settling in great on this end. Good luck... Where are you located? I volunteer for Pug rescue as well as Rottie rescue.
