My dog's expression? Whale eye My new Rott (3 yrs old) gives me a most peculiar look, she looks up at me with the whites of the eye showing.(not from the side-which is all of the behavior images show for 'whale eye') Is she just showing uncertainty, especially since she's been with us for only about a month? She has been a quick learner and has made herself at home. We are starting formal OB work soon, but the time I've spent walking her and interacting have been very positive, she heels well, sits great--recall, er, well, that needs a bit more work. The look is rather unnerving, but I may be likening it to human expression, where looking up through a heavy brow is a sign of distrust and even anger.

What is the rest of the body doing?? Sitting, standing, , laying down, head not moving, just the eye?? Baron will sometimes do that when he's tired - he'll lay there and just move his eyes to look at me, especially if I walk thru the room - just his eyes follow me...I agree, it is a bit un-nerving...I just laugh at him though.

Mostly when she is sitting or laying there with her head erect. My take on it is that she is just still not accustomed to us. I doubt the lady who raised her abused her, but she shows a fear for mops, for brooms, and flyswatters (all of mine don't like the swatters, even though it has never been used for corrections) but she definitely doesn't like them. I just lay the offending object on the floor for awhile, and reassure her. I have seen my RottyX do this sideways glance, but not the big eye, upwards gaze.
