Lightbulb Tough chew toy advice?

Our 1 year old adopted rotti has extremely sharp teeth and has destroyed many toys in short order. Any recommendations about tough, safe chew toys?

The only toy my dogs have not destroyed if left unsupervised is a Kong. the best type and brand of toy on the market for large breed (or any breed) dogs. It comes in many shapes and is good for leaving filled with treats (peanut butter, frozen yogurt, etc.) when you are gone.

Yep, kongs and soup bones are the only thing that survive and even the soup bones (given raw, NOT cooked) often have a good bit of damage done.

Go the Kong they are fantastic for being able to take a pretty hard chewer. Stuff a banana in there and then freeze it.

You might try "Hard Core Fire Hose". They can be found online.

But be careful with the fire hose - eventually, our pup chewed pieces of it off in chunks!

Frau was annihilating everything we bought her when she was a year old, so a vet friend suggested a Galileo. Cost like $30 but it lasts forever. Their rottie goes through one a year. Only thing with Frau is she likes to chew, but she has to be able to make headway. She get disenchanted with the galileo because it's so tough.

yes the galileo and other large nylabones are the only toy my dogs can have to play with by themselves. all the other toys are for playing with people with. Boris even chewed up the long-lived holey roller, the favorite tug toy. fire hose, ropes, etc. all chewed to bits. there is a tire toy, and they can have that to play with alone, but for some reason, don't like it much anymore. kongs too. they only seem interested in them when there is food inside or I'm throwing one. but they do love to chew the nylabones. And cuz balls. they love them. Boris throws balls for himself, in the air, across the room. I've heard of rotties liking full sized tires and big plastic drums, etc, but don't have those for them.

Nylabones are Julius' favorite chew toy. He still has one from when he was a puppy. Make sure to purchase the Durable ones.

My dog had no interest in Nylabones (even tried a suggestion from here about steeping it in chicken broth) or Kongs. Being able to destroy the toy seems to be the fascination, and he couldn't make headway on those, so he just lost interest. Wish there was something highly resistent but also safely digestable. It does take a little while to destroy a Holee Roller because the big spaces means less toy-on-tooth contact. They also do lots of fun bouncing when thrown, even once the destruction process has started.

I like to get a long cow femur from the feed store with the marrow still in it. After they are done with the marrow I stuff it with peanut butter and freeze it. They only are allowed to play with them in their crates. Sometimes they will get a BIG treat and I stuff it with ground beef and molasses and freeze it. Then they are in doggie heaven.

I had one of those balls they advertise as being undestructable. It was.. but my dogs had no interest. Kongs don't last long here either.

I will have to try the holee roller sounds like fun! I thought they were too flimsy but I guess maybe I underestimated them!

Both of my Rotties LOVE the Nylabones BIG CHEWS. These are made for very aggressive chewers (i.e. our Rotties) and will not break apart and can be left alone with the dogs. They are HUGE so no worries about them choking on it.

These things can be very expensive (Pet Smart sells them for $19.99 a piece). I have found that the best prices for these are at Target of all places for only $9.99. I buy a new one for them about every two months or so....they wear them out pretty good over that time as they chew non stop at night time.

These bones are great...better than the Kongs because the Kongs do not remove any tarter build up.

My Rotti is not a big chewer, he does like to rip plush toys, but my Newfy chews up everything (kitchen table and chairs included). We found an indestuctable (so far) chew toy - West Paw Designs Zogoflex "Hurley". She has chewed and chewed on it and the toy look like new. Also the designers of the toy "guarantee it against dog destruction".
Mike
P.S. we bought it online

And Kongs come in many different shapes and sizes. Please be sure you get the black beehived shaped kong, the other shapes come off in large chunks. My boyfriend's golden gobbled up half of an octagonal one, and puked 1 inch chunks.
