| Aggression after being spayed? Kyla got spayed on Tuesday morning and she since then she seems to be EXTRA aggressive towards other dogs. Before she might raise hair a bit but if I said "enough" she would calm down. Once she has been introduced to another dog then she was more interested in playing. Now though, woah! She sees another dog down the street and her hair is up from neck to nub and she is barking, growling and jumping trying to get them. Its like she is a different dog Is this because of her feeling vunerable after her surgery? A sort of defence mechanism of sound loud and scarey to keep them away when she is not feeling well? Anyone else had similar experience at all?? |

| I don't know why your girl is acting like this, could be a lot of things. she may not be feeling well, try to avoid the situation until she is feeling more like herself. I have had one female rottie spayed and numerous other breeds, and no, they never acted any different. |

| Yes, that could well be. Perhaps keeping her out of public until she's more healed may help. Females do not typically change temperament after being spayed, it's not a common "side effect." She may also still be in pain and therefore is feeling more defensive.

| Did the vet also give Kyla any vaccinations (particularly Rabies) during this procedure?

| No she is not on pain meds...they didn't give her any other than the day of surgery (she had laser done, if that makes a difference) and no she did not receive any vaccinations done at that time as she has already had them. |

| If this were my dog, I would ask the veterinarian for pain meds to give her. I don't care that the dogs seem to recover so much faster then we humans after surgery... they still must experience pain! And when one of my dogs is painful they are a lot less jolly around each other and I consider this to be a way of protecting themselves while they heal. Working at for 24-hr Veterinary ER, I am constantly amazed at the number of people who decline pain meds for their pets after surgery. I must keep in mind however that many clinics and hospitals do not routinely offer pain meds to go home for their more routine elective procedures like spays and neuters. This is too bad as they are missing out on another way to help their patients and many owners do not know to ask for the meds. I must go now, the pitty puppies next door are demanding their morning dog bisquits. These two are so cute I cannot resist giving them treats! <smile> I hope your female heals quickly and returns to her sunny disposition soon.
