New Rottie Owner NEEDS Help My husband has had a Rottie preveiously but Kody is my first. I have had him for 1 week. Also I should say I have 2 other dogs a 2 yr old choc lab and an 8 mos old black lab. He is a 1 yr old and knows a few commands (sit, down, heel, we are working on staying. Anyway Kody is constantly trying to "hump" the 2 yr old male and he will NOT stop. I pull him off and tell him no and make him sit/stay. But as soon as I turn my back hes at it again. My 2 yr old is getting less and less tolerent of this behaviour (not that i blame him). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Its driving me crazy Thanks

I forgot to add the choc male is fixed. My husband seems to think this is a dominance thing. And another thing is when my youngest son (1 yr old) is on the floor playing and starts to cry Kody will sit on him. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Tina

Cody trying to hump your 2 year old lab is a dominance thing and needs to be worked out between the two of them. My rottie plays with my fathers rottie (oz) everyday and he is constantly doing this. When oz has had enough he will put bear in his place and bear will back off. We do not step in we let the dogs work it out between themselfs. They are trying to establish pack order. Also with your son I would not allow him to be on the floor while the dog is present. This is telling the dog that he is on the same level. The dog sitting in your sons lap also sounds like it is a dominace issue. He needs to learn his order in the pack and that you your husband and son are first.

We had this same issue with Tuzak and Decca. We have had Tuz since he was a baby, but a few weeks ago got Decca, who is already 2 1/2. Tuz is 6 months. Decca had the same behavior as you are describing towards Tuzak. They are just figuring out who is the boss and who is dominant in the pack. After a couple weeks of this, it stopped. Decca will still put the little guy in his place if he is being a pain (biting his face, ears, etc..trying to get him to play). We just let them figure it out for themselves as long as they are not hurting each other. Good Luck!!

To TINA B: Don't forget my friend.... rottweilers are KNOWN for their stubborness. The only thing we can do to eventually win the battles is to be MORE stubborn than the dog. This takes a little time, but if you NEVER give in but is consequent the dog will finally get your message. Good Luck!
