tired puppy

I think I am noticing a pattern in Sara. It seems like when she gets tired, sometimes she won't sleep, but gets really wild, and doesn't listen at all. When she gets like this, I put her in her kennel w/ a treat and she pretty much goes to sleep. Does this sound normal? Or am I just putting human attributes on a dog?

Hi memenzel,
I have also found this to be true they are just like babies if they dont get enough sleep they are very grumpy. When my pup gets overtired , she becomes a little devil!....lol..so I put her to bed and she wakes again in her angel outfit!

Gosh, I remember we had several names for this. "The zooms", as in they zoom around like crazy or "Monster hour". This was always in the early evenings after dinner. Just when you thought you could finally settle down for a nice quiet evening...Wham puppy goes nuts. See this is one thing I don't miss about puppyhood. I am SO happy mine is a semi-adult now!

What time does your furkid take on her devil qualities? :D

Just because you might be too tired to enjoy watching them be silly, doesn't mean the dog is tired;) Dogs, unlike people have no qualms about crashing when they are tired.

It's not that I'm tired, my husband has been working late (til 12:30am) so I tried to let her stay up, but around 10:30-11:00. I think it's very cute when she's running around. But she starts biting, and won't listen at all, when she's not usually like this. And when I put her in her kennel, she goes right to sleep. Should I not try to let her stay up?

If my Rott doesn´t get her R.E.M. sleep she really pulls an attitude too. She usually sleeps a few times through the day but if she misses one of her lay downs she can be down right cranky. Maybe you should try to let her have a nap later in the night so she is well rested by 12:30.

I put my pup in his crate after he eats and after each play time. Any physical activity I put him in to rest and or sleep. It's good to get to your pup before she actually gets to the point where she's bad and misbehaves due to being over tired. Not all pups lie down on their own to rest, just like a child who thinks they have all this energy yet don't really know that a nap would take care of their irritable mood. Now grant you, dogs aren't human but in a way when their young it works the same way. In answer to your question, yes you're doing the right thing by putting her in her crate when you think she needs to rest.
