| I am an avid gardener and recently had a truckload of mulch delivered. Apparently hardwood mulch is a doggie delicacy, for my 7 yr old English Setter, Lucy, Banchie, my 4 yr old Rottie rescue, and my granddog, 2 yr old Boston Terrier, Phoebe, do nothing but eat from the pile. No matter how I scold and chase them away, they find a way to sneak back. I can't get rid of the mulch as I need it. Now I am finding vomited mulch on my living room carpet. Anybody else have this problem with mulch being a taste treat for dogs? I am worried that it will hurt them, as evidenced by the vomit and some very woody poops! Any suggestions? | Re: Mulch monster I've read on here in another thread that the chemicals used on the mulch can make them sick - don't know how seriously, though. Rocco loves to try to sneak the old mulch under my bushes at the upper end of my yard but that's been there for at least 6 years so I doubt there's any chemical residue left on it. I still make him "drop it", though. I quit using mulch around the house a long time ago because it was attracting ants. |

| Re: Mulch monster The other thread dealt with toxicity. However, as with any nonfood item, there is always the risk of blockage in the intestinal tract. However, the OP was asking how to get them to leave the pile alone. Dante has little discipline when it comes to kleenex. He ate a whole box of them one time. It's come to the point where we have our CTJ meeting every time a bust him eating the kleenex yet he still sneaks in occasionally and grabs a few. Ideally, the only solution was to put the Kleenex box out of his reach.
