Adding another? (long)

Well it's quite possible that we may be adding another dog to the family...maybe...oh god what am I thinking? My partner's daughter has a year old border collie/pitbull mix (I know she's as funny looking as that sounds) Chica and her have met and played many times before but not at my house. Do to some changes in living arrangements dog may have to be given away (don't let me get started on that) anyway dog is staying with us at the moment. Chica and Socks get "seem" to get along and Chica even willingly shares her toys etc. They play well and cuddle up together. I also know that visiting and living together are two different things. We also have a cat which Socks is very interested in but I kept her (dog) on leash in the house last night and although I would never trust her alone with the cat at this point they did end of laying about 6 inches apart with no trouble so I would have hope for the future. Dog is abit timid and a little hand shy but very very quick to learn...my daughter and I took both dogs to the park for a walk last night and weird looking little doggie turns out to be a snarling barking growling, lunging fiend whenever any other dogs walk by. Of course Chica just heels and doesn't pay any attention (I'm so proud). Well of course now I'm walking a Rotti and a dog that looks enough like a pitti that people get the idea. Wow if you thought just having a Rotti got negative responses this is even better. Obviously little doggie has some issue which I know can be worked on. I've had Chica for almost a year now and she's soo well behaved I just don't know if I want to start all over again...don't know what the questions is...just looking for advice, opinions... I can always just say no and try and help look for another home. I could do some basic obediance in the meantime...help!

Re: Adding another? (long)

My only concern here would be that they're both females and this seems to have caused problems as discussed on other threads - how far apart in age are they?

Re: Adding another? (long)

They are only about 8 months apart in age. I am concerned about that as well. Would a dominance issue show up right away or become an issue as they mature. I have had more than one dog at the same time in the past but once there was about 8 years difference and a female/male and the other time there was a 3 year difference and male/male.
