dog IQs

the more I watch my girl, the more I am surprised at her intelligence. The more I read here, the more I am convinced that it is a breed trait. they are so smart. I'm wondering about dog IQs. Is there such a thing? I see and read lots of signs that indicate rotties are above average intelligence. Tonight I was eating crackers, both dogs begging. the computer is in a nook separated from the living room by a wall with a little window in it. I was tired of the begging, so I said 'Hilda look', and threw a cracker through the window. she looked, then ran into the living room and found it. then she sat in the living room, and looked through the little window to beg. I found that much better, and threw her a cracker now and then.

Re: dog IQs

Hey Debbie, there's a fun little book called "The Dog IQ Test" by Melissa Miller. I'd forgotten about it til I saw your post and just pulled it out. There are a bunch of fun exercises to do with your dog, then at the end you score the dogs responses and come up with an IQ for your dog AND you! I'll have to try this stuff with Blitz after she's been around awhile longer...(Charleigh was WAAYYY above average, BTW!!)

Re: dog IQs

There was a book published about 10 years ago by Stanley Coren called "the Intelligence of Dogs" and I believe the rottweiler was in the top 10.

I work as a software technical support person. And I swear Brutus (only 8 weeks old) has more intelligence than some of the dummies who call support!
