Re: whining

Is your dog being socialised with other dogs?

Are you taking him to obedience training classes? If not then now is the time to start.

If he had been left with his littermates until he was 8 weeks old he would have gotten a lot of these feelings under control. This is part of what they learn in the critical development stages that your dog missed.

Re: whining

What do you do when your dog whines? If you have been trying to sooth him, like "it's ok" or "don't worry, I'm here", you are reinforcing his whining behaviour. There are many reasons why he may be whining, you should watch him closley to figure it out and seek help (ie training) to correct the behaviour before it goes further, he is still yound and impressionable and you want to make sure you are feeding his ego properly.
Another point, why are you going to wait another 8-9 months to get him fixed? I hope it is not to "have a big and strong male rotti". Check out the pages here to see the pros and cons of fixing your guy and when it is best to have it done. If you are going to have it done for sure, I don't see a reason to wait.

Re: whining

If it helps, I was told by my vet to neuter him at about 5 months of age before he gets his male hormones as this should deter any of the dominant behaviour. I've definitely decided to act on his advice so unfortunately for Kane - in another month and a half, he will have no balls - hopefully in all aspects of the word (if you get what I mean!)
