Whining

Akasha has recently started whining ALOT.
Right now she is sitting at our front window watching the neighbor kids and whining because she wants to go play with them. I put her collar and leash on her and made her come lay down next to me until she stopped. Is there anything else I can do to stop this annying habit of hers?

She was whining when she was crated and we were up and doing stuff around the house. She has recently stopped doing this since we switched her from the wire crate back to the airline crate.

I absolutely HATE a dog that whines! How should I be correcting her when she does this? I don't want to make it worse.

Damer & Dallas now go into the crate at bedtime, since there's not enough room for 2 humans and 2 huge dogs in a queen sized bed. Damer whines and crys for roughly 30 minutes each night from inside the crate......which mind you, is IN the bedroom, and they both have full vision of mom!! We just ignore him and eventually he stops. Come to think of it, he hasn't whined the past couple of nights. Maybe he's figured things out :)

Well I'll follow in this thread too.
Dutch is a whiner when he gets frustrated. One of his nicknames is "Mr. Squeaky."

I took an ob class once; the trainer had a Sch titled GSD he used as a demonstration dog. The GSD would be in a downstay and would whine softly the whole time waiting for his chance to work. The trainer would say his dog was demonstrating the "stay and squeak."

My dog does that too.

When she was younger she liked to bark at things and after holding her snout shut and saying QUIET! she learned to stop barking when told to stop.

I say QUIET! now when she decides to whine and for the most part it works. I guess she understands perfectly well what is expected of her when that word is said.
