THANK YOU everyone for sharing your stories, opinions, and suggestions.

My husband and I have decided to give Katie and Sierra one last try. We've made an appointment for next week to see Dr. Moon at the Animal Behavior Center at Tuft's University.

Perhaps she will be able to shed some light on our situation and make some recommendations for our family!

It's interesting, though. You'd never know that they had such a terrible fight. They kiss each other thru the baby gate and wag their stumps. They both want to play.

We'll keep you posted.

Have to second the comment about this thread. Glad my bitches are five years apart. Also have a four year old male, knocking on wood, all get a long great. By the way the bitches are five and ten.

My former foster girl and our Thelda did the same thing THROUGH THE GATE after the first fight...but if Thelda saw the other dog through the door or out in the yard - forget it. One day idiot mom in law let all the dogs out, not realizing I was in the yard with foster girl (did not big NOTE on the door not tell her anything?!?!), and I had a devil of a time keeping Thelda away from foster girl...while she was seeming happy at 5 feet away, at 2 feet it wasn't happy anymore. I could start a whole 'nother thread about idiot mom in law and her dog and her dog sense (or serious lack of it!)...

We really never understood it as Thelda was the third bitch in the house...and Baby (Lab/GSD alpha bitch) and Cheyenne (rott) are about 1 year apart in age and bext buds and have never fought....sometimes you get lucky.

It has been my experience that whenever there is more than one person living in the home these accidents happen. Occasionally when there is only one person in the home a second of absent mindedness can give the dogs an opportunity to get together but it is with multiple people that it becomes almost impossible to eliminate accidental meetings.

Good luck with your girls. I really hope that one last chance doesn't end up seriously hurting or killing one of them.:( I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I have personally seen a bitch go through a plate glass window to get to another bitch. I have also seen a bitch go through a car window to get to another bitch. I have seen them scale fences that no dog should be able to scale to get to another bitch, chew through chain link kennels, etc.

When two bitches hate each other they will go to great lengths to get to each other, very similar to what a male will do to get to a bitch in heat.

When two males fight it is bad enough. But I've never seen anything that carries the ferocity of a bitch fight. It is quite horrific.

ours too....

Our girls did the same thing..see Viviannes post from 10-31, in the vets corner thread. Mia and Madison were also kissing through a baby gate when Madison came home from the Vet after the attack, nubbies were wagging...and then without warning Mia went for Madison again, Viv was standing next to Mia and was able to control her. So now they are no longer allowed to be together. Mia sees Madison through the crate and you can see that Mia wants to play...but one bad attack was more than enough for us:( I wish you luck with the girls...keep us posted

A lifetime of separating....

We now have 3 rotties in the house. 2 males (3.5yrs and 14mos - father and son), and 1 female.

About 5 months ago, we started separating the boys. The older dog probably would have been groovy with everything... but young boy is full of himself...the posturing started.... and so did the separating.

My girl is prone to bitch aggression..... once a female pup turns 6 weeks old... they are fair game. So.... when I bring another girl into the house.... separation will begin immediately.

It takes vigilence, and consistancy... it can be done... but, as others have said.... EVERYONE in the house must be on top of the game... or accidents WILL happen. Living like this is not for everyone....

We are fortunate that our house layout makes it easy for us... but, MrPooh and I have given up our Master Bedroom for a smaller room in the house to make this possible.

Please take the advice you've been given very seriously... you have already seen some nasty results from repeating your two girl walk.

Although it's commendable that you're seeking the advice of a behaviorist.... I'd really hate to see a post in Rainbow Bridge because you think this is fixable. Once bitches decide they don't like each other.... death can result all too quickly... and it only takes a split second of you wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Having been in the middle of a 5 rottie fight.. that started because of bitches... not only are the dogs in danger... but you are too if you try to break it up...I implore you to pay attention to the warnings others have given you.

Good luck.
