Whining while itching

our 22 mos old will itch/bite his foot and whine while doing it. He doesn't do it all the time, maybe once a week or so. But I can't tell if he's in pain or exactly what is going on. Anyone else experience this?

Have you inspected his foot closely? There may be a splinter or grass seed there. Do you see any sign of infection or irritation?

Think I would take him to the vet for investigation.

Yup, nothing wrong w/the foot, vet says it's fine as well. I thought maybe it was a weird "dog thing". I guess we'll have to keep searching! Thanks!!

Is it just the one foot? Does he walk normally on it? Biting feet and whining is often allergy-related, but it's weird to see only one foot being bitten.

he does walk normally and I think he'll do it to either one, but I guess I'll have to pay more attention to that part.

My thinking was it could be allergy related as well. I can never actually "see" any irritation on my cocker, until he digs it raw. His pads are even tougher to guage than his skin.

Doesn't take much, at least not with mine. A bit of someones lawn feed is all it takes. Good luck finding out. Just to me whining usually indicates a certain degree of discomfort or unpleasantness, not necessarily pain.
