| lazy pup "Our names our Todd and Natalie and we...own a rott" --"hello Todd & Natalie." My wife and I are proud new parents of a Rott and are new to this forum--we are looking for some help with our new puppy, Gus. He is seven weeks old and we have crate trained him, he does not have any accidents in the house, he has somewhat learned to sit on command, and we are working on training him to walk with a leash. So far, he is doing great! However, when we are at home or at my friends house like we were today he didnt do anything--just kinda laid there. He doesn't play or run around he just seems to sleep a lot... We understand he is growing and will sleep quite a bit, but people were commenting today on how odd his behavior, rather, lack of behavior was. Is this normal?? Let us know. Thank you Todd and Natalie parents of GUS ps--I will post pitures when we get them back pps-- any tips on biting? He seems to nibble a lot--the dog has a million +1 new chew toys, but still prefers toes and the carpet

| As long as he's biting, he sounds pretty normal! :D If you use the search button at the top of the page and type in "puppy biting", you will learn more than you ever thought you could know about the subject! :) Seriously though, has he had a thorough vet check since you've had him? Puppies do need to sleep a lot because they're growing at an incredible rate, but in between all those naps you'll normally see some spunk. If you invite him to, does he play? Welcome to the forums, this is a great place to help give him a good start in life! :) |

| Hi there. :) If he's 7 weeks old now and it sounds like you've had him for a little while already, that is VERY young. Most breeders don't even let a pup leave the litter before 8 weeks old. I think it may actually be illegal to let them go too early in some states...(someone will correct me if I'm wrong.) I hope you've had him to your vet for puppy wellness checks & whatever; if not, you need to do that ASAP. Does he eat normally 3-4 times a day, and play when he's awake? It is normal for very little puppies to sleep a lot, but they should be curious & active when they're not sleeping. As for biting - I'd worry about a puppy that didn't bite! It's what they do. I warn you too, it will get worse before it gets better, especially when he starts teething. Check this out: http://rottweiler.net/forums/showthr...threadid=27861 Enjoy your puppy! And do read through the forums, you can use the search button on the top of the page. There's a wealth of info here.

| When we went to pick him up we brought my sister with--she is a vet., everything seemed to check out just from looking him and his parents over. Natalie's dad is also a vet, we're bringing him in this week for an extensive check-up. The dog does have it's spurts of energy, they just seem to have been few and far between. (However at this very moment, he happens to be running around the house like a wild man; it's amazing how much can change in a dog's behavior in a matter of days.) Thanks for your help, we really appreciate it! Todd, Natalie, & Gus

| I'll defer to the experts, but we ended up adopting Dante at 6 weeks... From what I remember, he slept a lot as well. (Short little spurts of energy and then nap time)... Our trainer was explicit on making sure that he had zero bad experiences (ie: corrections, etc, until after 8 weeks)...
