Puppy Meets Behemoth on the Bike Path

Just got done walking the pup and encountered a 55 year old woman with a huge male. "Its my son's dog, he weighs 160, she later said." he did not look 160. Maybe 125.

Anyway, I aksed if they could meet and Boris went off on the puppy and nearly tore his head off. I guess it was wrong to approach Boris on the leash of a 55 year old, 100 pound woman. She didn't mention it was her son's dog until after the "attack".

Anyhoo, no bumps no bruises. My guy wasn't fazed. No fear. I popped the leash away form the ensuing encounter very quickly. Thank god Boris didn't charge, theres no way that woman could have stopped it.

Its too bad some adult dogs just freak out on excited puppies who go sniffing for the good stuff. I hope mine is a gentleman to other puppies someday. Lesson learned - keep your distance from unknown large dogs in an open situation, don't approach big dogs on the leash of a fraile woman.

Slightly o/t, but am I the only one who gets warning lights flashing when one of the first things people tell you about their dog is what it weighs?

Well actually I asked her first, and since it wasn't really her dog, I don't think she had a clue. Her son needs to train him better I believe. But, a rambuncscious puppy sniffing around any strange big dog is notta good thing ... :)

I think most rott puppy owners love for their pups to see adult rotts, and watch their reaction. Mine always freaks out on other rotties. Its a funny thing. Its like he thinks "there's my mom or dad."

I am glad that everything turned out ok and nobody got hurt! How scary! I am always very leary when I introduce the puppies to adult dogs. I am so afraid that they will have a bad experience and then possibly become dog agressive. I have introduced them to several different adult dogs but I watch them very closely and make sure everyone is on leash. So far every adult dog they have met has belonged to someone I know so at least I have an idea of what the dog is like. There are never any guarantees though.

Thankfully it didn't have a negative effect on your puppy.:D
