Having spastic fits after a bath...

Whenever I give Kiara a bath and let her go outside, she'll start rolling in the dirt/grass/mud,etc.. and get herself so dirty. But when she does it, it's like she's having a fit or something.. Is this normal? It's like the zoomies, except she rolls around as if she's trying to scratch her back and side...

It's quite annoying, as she's so clean and smells nice after a bath and she goes and wrecks it 2 seconds later..

Does your dog do it?

Welcome to the world of the afterbath party for dogs.

Yes its so normal you wouldn't believe it.

My girl didn't do it at first, but after a few, its the zoomies, rub up against the couch, roll everywhere...I know better than to let her out before she dries...:p :p

I think its their way of getting back at us for trying to clean them up....:D :D

We call it the galloping sillies! My young Rott does it inside, rolls around on the carpet, rubs up against the walls etc., nose dives into anything at all and goes absolutely stupid. I think she is trying to get rid of the smell, it's too nice, she wants to smell like a dog.
Thank goodness she's not a poodle and has to go to the groomers. She just couldn't bear to smell that nice and be all puffed up with ribbons etc.,

I LOVE to watch the after bath zoomies! It is so funny! I love the way Birdie rolls all over the carpet and wiggles her head and her butt!:D

We always end up mopping up 1 inch of standing water from the bathroom floor after boths. Jaxom loves baths, but it's the cleanup afterwards is a REAL chore for us.

Sophie USED to do this, and she then taught Ian to do this. I HATED it until I built the "DOG WASH STATION" and now, I don't have that problem!!! :D

At the corner of my patio I buried two poles with concrete about 2 feet in from the point of the corner, there is 3 feet of pole sticking out of the ground, I then filled the poles with more concrete to form a bollard of sort. I let that cure overnight. The next day I took two chainlink fence TOP RAIL caps and epoxied them to the top of the "bollard" making sure that they were pointing directly towards each other. I bought enough plastic coated cable that would loop and fasten through the top rail caps and to the ends of the cable, each has a chrome spring clip (like at the end of a leash).

Now, when I want to wash Sophie, I put her collar on her, fasten both clips the ring on her collar this prevents her from wrapping AROUND the pole......which she used to like to do!!! When we are finished with her bath I get the large DOG TOWEL and dry her off.......I DON'T UNHOOK HER UNTIL SHE'S DRY (having a short coat is dries fast) AND I'M READY TO TAKE HER INSIDE!!! We are inside about a half hour.....then I let her out......she doesn't roll!!! :D

okay... so there are *few* things my dog is perfect at--- but bath time is one of them. :) (depending on your meaning of perfect I guess.....)

I bathe her outside, with a hose. She will stand still as long as I am bathing her-- won't shake as long as I am standing near her.... and after the bath shakes (like the removing water shake-- not the scared shaking) a bit but no rolling in anything gross!

She's been this way since I got her last summer as an adult rescue. :) Whoulda thunk she would be so good at bath time???

Oh yeah I can relate

Czar goes bonkers too and when we do his ears he does the same thing , it's just too funny and he slams his head down so hard on the floor, I'm waiting for the day he knocks himself out. Heck they can get their exercise just by doing ears and baths, lol:D.

Kind of along the same lines. I can't remember where I heard it but years ago with my first pound puppy I had the darndest time with him shaking while giving him a bath.

I was told to gently lift one paw off the ground when you see that they are beginning to shake. It will immediately stop any urge they have to drown mommy with a shake.

It knocks their balance off ever so slightly and they won't even attempt to shake. I just do this if I notice the signs of an impending shake during the bath. After I am done rinsing I close the shower door and let them shake all they want.

I don't get drenched and bath time goes much faster. :D

My four year old male, Duncan, does the zoomie, running around and rubbing all over everything in the house as well. He hates water. He even does this after coming in from out of the rain. Mainly likes the rug and whatever dog bed is handy. I always get tickled watching his antics. My other two could care a less. A good shake and they're done.
