lack of obedience in the car.

Whenever I'm in the car with Kiara, she refuses to sit or lay down when I ask her to.
Outside she drops very quickly with no hesitation. In the car, it's impossible and I actually have to stop, get out the car and make her sit/lay down physically. It's quite annoying as well as I raise my voice and get very frustrated.

I've tried looking directly at her, but she won't do it. I've even try to coax her with treats..

Any suggestions?

If she was in a seatbelt harness tight enough she wouldn't have a choice but to sit or lay down........:D

Well most dogs I've known like to look out the window when they're in the car...are you saying she gets wild and jumps around in the car...?
A doggie seatbelt is probably a good idea - I don't use one, but many do. But you could use a short leash and hook it somewhere so she stays in the back seat, or wherever you want her to be while you drive. That's what I had to do with Dutch at first (he was adult when we got him) because he wanted to be in the driver's lap cuddling all the time.
When you get mad and frustrated, it's a bad time to try teaching anything! Easiest just to fix it so she has no choice. :)

If you aren't going to use a seatbelt harness, please consider a crate. You shouldn't have to give your dog commands in the car - it takes your attention off the road. ;)

So, basically you are saying that she has figured out that while in the car, even if you tell her to sit or down or whatever -- too bad! She just does what she wants. What you need to do now is back to basics. Get in the car with her and without doing anything else, tell her to sit. If she doesn't you need to correct the situation. Next move on to starting the car, then move in the driveway a little, etc, etc. until she gets retrained.

Usually a dog that insists on standing in the car (not talking about running around and like an idiot), is doing so because of a bit of anxiety. If this is the case, your fussing at her is not going to make her more comfortable, but might even increase the anxiety. If you think this might be the case, try having someone ride next to her, put her into a down and give her a bit of massage to show her that she can be relaxed in the car. Don't really know that this will carry over, but it might help.

If it is truly disobedience (if I recall she is quite young yet), then a lead from her collar to your hand will allow you to give a bit of a leash pop when you give your command. Remember, that although she has some training, that doesn't mean she truly understands commands in different situations. That takes more time than most realize.
