| sleeping outside 2, the solution. Ok, after a total ear bashing on my previous post, I decided to do something about my allergies. People slagged me for getting a dog. Well I have good reasons for getting a dog. I have always wanted a pet companion since I was a little kid, but I couldn't due to allergies and my parents not wanting dogs. Now that I'm older and have moved on, i've been able to do that in my own house. Although I get allergies, I still have the dedication, love and committment to own a companion and care for it. whenever I'm home, my dog is next to me getting spoilt rotten. We go to obedience, do all sorts of training together, go on holidays, hikes, etc.. I do all this with allergic reactions. I went to my auntie last night who is a pharmacist and asked for something that reduces allergies to dogs/cats. She gave me a shampoo that I can use on dogs and cats and it reduces the symptoms. I washed her with it, gave her a good brushing and then dry washed in baking soda. My auntie says if I wash her more often, my allergies should be reduced quite a bit. So that's what i'll do from now on. This product has all natural ingredients. I also went out and bought a special rubber backed rug with a static material on top that absorbs the dog hair that I can lay in the laundry for her to sleep on. She was in there last night, apart from the digusting doggy smell in the morning, everything was ok. I took the rug outside to hang on the line and i'll put it back each night. I'll be vaccuming it daily, and also the room will be vaccumed and mopped. So, she'll be in the laundry during the nights. Just have to find a good air freshener.

| You're alright. :) I have a friend who would dearly love an animal, even a cat. But she is terribly allergic to just about anything on four legs- she can't spend more than 15 minutes in my house without tearing up and starting to sneeze and itch. I usually go to her house to visit. Good for you, anyhow - I hope it works out! I've no experience with allergies...I think I would just be a completely different human being if I hadn't had the freedom and opportunity to be an animal geek since I could barely crawl.

| If I didn't have an allergy, Kiara would be sleeping on my bed, and my wife on the floor! :p Dont tell her I said that.... otherwise

| Well, I just want to say, "Good Job!" Couldn't be better news, especially for Kiara. My wife has problems breathing and we have an air purrifier (heppa filter type) running in our bedroom 24/7 and that helps greatly. They sell for around $150 US here in the states, maybe you could look into getting one of those to further help your allergies? Just a thought. |

| Glad to hear it, well done! :) Just wondering though, if there's a "disgusting doggy smell" there may be something going on with her - Rotties aren't known for being stinky dogs. Is she on a good diet? |

| She's on an excellent diet. To me, all dogs smell. Maybe i'm just not used to the smell inside the house. My wife says that when she lived at home and their rotty was in the kitchen and you walked in after not being there for a couple of days, you'd notice the smell, but then you'd get used to it.

| Chuss, I am so glad to hear you have compromised for the sake of your rottie girl. That is all any of us wanted, was for her to be in the best possible situation. I don't know if this would help, with the "smell" or not, but scented candles by Glade did wonders for a nasty cat litter box area I had. Also, anything by arm and hammer is great for absorbing odor. I am very glad to hear, and hope you and your dog have nothing but good times ahead.

| I think it's GREAT that you are giving this a try! At least now you will know that you have tried everything and if it doesn't work well you gave it your best try. I have had allergies since I can remember. I am allergic to all animals, dust, grass, weeds, ect. I take medication every day just to be able to deal with my animals. I take Zyrtec and it works really good! I don't know if you are willing to try medication but it has really helped me. I also use Flonase nasal spray and Provental inhaler for my asthma. I still get sick and I still get hives but not as much as I used to. I know that alot of people don't think it's a good idea to bathe their dogs very often but I have found that I have to keep mine pretty clean to keep them in the house and they get bathed about once a week. Sometimes I will skip a week but if I go any longer than 2 weeks I really pay. Right now the puppies need a bath pretty bad and every time I touch them I am breaking out with hives. Since they are so bad I am waiting for my daughter to bathe them for me, otherwise I will get really sick. An air purifier really is a good idea. Also don't allow her in your room so you have a place to go to get away. Don't let her on your furniture either otherwise that may cause a problem for you when you sit on it (I know it does for me). Try vacumming her also. Wednesday I am going to order a vacuum for the puppies because I think that will really cut down on the amount of hair. This is the first time I have been able to have a large dog in the house. After having both dogs kept outside and dogs inside I will never keep my dogs outside again. I have really noticed a difference between Akasha and Keil and the outside dogs I have had in the past. Inside dogs have a big advantage over dogs outside. Good Luck! I really hope that having her inside works out for both of you!;)

| ive tried every available drug, all they do is slightly reduce the symptoms and make me drowsy. I also don't like the idea of taking drugs. I rarely take anything. The only thing i'll take is a pain killer if i'm suffering from a migrane, other than that it's natural for me. There's a product called melaleuca, which is apparently good for you and safe on your skin. I might give this a try on my dog. It comes from the melaleuca tree and smells very similar to tea tree oil. www.melaleuca.com

| Hmmm...I have friends who come over maybe once a month and they never mention a 'doggie smell' (and they would which is why I love them as friends!!!!). I have five dogs here who get bathed maybe 2-3 times a year, they smell great, coats look good, get brushed once a week minimum (2-3 times a week now since they're shedding like mad now!). Has the dog been checked by a vet to make sure it's not a medical problem that makes her 'smell bad'? Could be a very bad case of gas too - try plain lowfat organic yogurt in the dogs food - one big tablespoon with each meal. Should help after about a week of feeding it. Good luck!! |

| Hi Guys, This is just an idea, I do it all the time. It helps with shedding, allergies and dirt. I vacuum the dog, I have one of those attachments that looks like a hose, and away we go. I usually do this before I wash the floors, since his hair is everywheres. My puppy likes it. He will sit patiently while I vacuum him up and down. For really good results brush him first. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but his coat is really shinny. Hope this helps,;) Gracemichael |
