Stalking like a cat

Peanut stalks everything. It is funny to watch. She especially does it when playing with Sadie. Just wondering if anyone else has experience this, and if it is something to worry about.

Probably herding related, as for the requirements of my dogs, they arn't allowed to interact with each other! Any instance where the dog shows this behavior coupled with dominance or situations where he starts acting out of his own in relation to aggression or claiming certain things, definately a problem. Ultimately it depends on the dog as an individual and how this "authority" however slight effects him.

You dont let your dogs play with each other?

Mostly when I see it they are playing. Sadie will have a ball and Peanut will stalk, sadie takes off into the dog house, Peanut follows running cirlces around dog house, then they both come back. They will do this over and over again, while sam sits watching. I swear he sometime has a smile on his face. :) It is funny to watch.

Some sports people have a different approach and that is there choice. My dogs only interact with me and by doing so learn that I am their stimulation, I get the dogs driving me for various things, food, toy etc which all colectively contributes to certain traits revolving around the sport, I'm happy the dogs are happy and we get the results desired. As I said stalking is a behavior, not necessarily a problem but if coupled with unfavourable traits or behaviors depending on the dog, then stop it.

My Casey stalks - especially squirrels. It's fun to watch. She'll stand sooooo still for the longest time. And then she'll even point!

My dogs are family members only so all 3 play together.

Just a heads up. My dog has a GSD pal who stalks other dogs, squirrels, anything that moves.... It has gotten increasingly worse over the last 6 months ( she's gone from adolescent to young adult). Her stalking went a little to far when she stalked Max and then nipped his butt....Now we have a nice puncture we are treating.... Just be careful of how the behavior is building, and what it is directed on. Maybe channel that energy and hook up with a herding instructor?

Thanks for the advice. I am glad to see that other people have experienced this.

I will definitly watch them when they play, and if it gets out of hand or if she gets aggressive, I will definitly have her channel it in other ways.
Thanks again!!:)
