barking in the car That is strange about your dog barking in the car. My dog is so quiet when she is in the car, we many times forget we brought her with us. She does not even make a sound and will stay there forever very happily knowing we will be back. I never leave her in the car in hot weather; just comfortable weather.

maybe kaiser just suffers from serious anxiety issues? Could it be that its not barking from enjoyment but rather anxiousness, that he doesn't know where he is being taken? He also barks when I get in the car to leave without him, but I'm sure he's saying "hey take me with you, you forgot me, I'm still here, why can't I come." or something along those lines.

I was serious about the (wood shop type) ear protectors. the barking is dangerously distracting as well as painful. I know I am a failure, but I was unable to consistently try to train my dog out of the barking, in large part because it was just me, driving. I wish I had known about e-collars, because that might have worked. I never tried the way that Judy W suggests. My guy did not bark until we were moving, and it too was highly excited, almost a frenzy. He never sat or relaxed while moving. Large white trucks set him off. And it was worse at night, with any6 headlights coming toward us. He did not see very well at night. I do think, even though he loved, absolutely loved rides, and sitting in the car in the driveway, that there was anxiety in the frenzy. He never barked "into a frenzy" except in the car, any car. I hope that you are more successful than I was. I do not think he was barking for the joy of it.

All right you guys. I said, these are scheduled training sessions, not commuting to work!!!!! They are planned and worked for success and the dog should not be going for rides until adequate training has taken place. I'm also a bit old fashioned. Don't care if there is a bit of anxiety or if it's just because he can get away with it and it is fun. It is something that can be fixed, but must be in a controlled situation without opportunity to for him to indulge himself until he becomes reliable. An ecollar is great, but not always easily available (economically anyway), but everyone has a leash and collar and if they don't have authority, this will certainly speed that up also.

Thought you guys would like to know.... Someone suggested I use a water spray to train him. It has taken two 15 minute car rides and the barking has stopped!
