Newer behavior for Brodie

About 1-2 months ago I noticed that when I would go to use the bathroom Brodie would sit outside the door and whine for 5-10 sec. and then settle down in front of or next to the door waiting for me to come out. He only does this with me though and not Dave. We've had Brodie since August 02' why has he just started this behavior? I don't mind it, just curious as to why some of you think he may be doing it.

Sounds like the dog has "bonded" with you over Dave.

maverick does the same thing with me, but not with my husband or son. our one bathroom is off of the laundry room. the people who lived in the house before us cut a hole in the laundry room door for their cat. sometimes i'll close the laundry room door and not the bathroom door. i caught him trying to crawl thru the "cat door" a couple of times to get to me. he could only get his front paws and snout in. i cracked up laughing.

I swear Makita would flush the damn toilet for me if she could.

She never used to go in, usually just waited somewhere outside, now she follows me in, sits down.... I put my foot down on it when she gets too close, its like....PRIVACY PLEASE....:D :D

After all I don't follow her out in the yard while she is going potty....

I agree, its the shadow thing, they love to be with you...no matter where...:D :D

Both of mine follow me all over the house, every single time I move. The bathroom deal is the craziest. Every visit is a three "person" deal. Sometimes Zoe will get her big self in before I close the door, then poor Gunnar sits outside and whines like he's a lost puppy. Opening the door he reacts as if he'd been apart from me for hours or days.

At a campground last week, Zoe ran into the ladies room and tried to crawl under the stall door while Gunnar went to the next stall and scooted under that way. Thankfully the bathroom was empty.

Seeing a couple of big Rottie heads scooching over the floor of a ladies' room stall while one is trying to be PRIVATE is hilarious and annoying at the same time.

Since it is just hubby and I we never shut the bathroom doors. So we always have a LARGE audience as we do our business. If I want to soak in the tub, I have dogs next to it, on a dog bed I gave in and put there, plus part of the crew lays on OUR bed and gazes at me as I soak. I figure if the freaks want to look at take the chance of getting sick at the sights they see OH WELL!
I think it is a sick form of love on their parts!!:p

Do ya think if we did follow and watch they'd get the idea? That may be a worthwhile experiment!:D

If you can stand the smell of it... go for it...:p :p :p

That's kind of like when you get done cleaning it all up out of the yard... then someone has to go all of a sudden and leave a fresh new pile...

I mean who would want the yard completely free of poop.

You are so right. It never fails, hubby finishes doing the poop patrol and someone, usually more then one someone, will poop! I think they feel the need to keep SOME poop in the yard!:p

newer behavior for Brodie

I think that the dog does not want you to close the door. They like to keep an eye on their master at all times. They feel left out if the door is closed. The dog is just doing his job guarding you.

Our first Rottie, Bull, used to follow me into the bathroom all the time, or curl up outside the door if I closed it quickly enough. (our current foster boy does that too). One night I sat down and Bull came in, sat squarely in front of me, then put one paw on each shoulder and gazed into my eyes! If that doesn't "spoil the mood" :D

He just can't stand to be away from you! :D

Ilsa will do the same thing when I'm in the bathroom or in the basement doing laundry. The dogs aren't allowed in the basement because we are remodeling the house and there are all sorts of tools and toxic chemicals stored down there that I don't want them messing with. So she will just sit at the top of the stairs, whining and peaking at me through the banister. What a big baby!

If I were to close the bathroom door I think both of my dogs would have a heart attack on the spot!
